Knowledge Enterprise is seeking an Associate Director of Research Space Planning. This person will assist the Senior Director with planning and organizing research space usage for the highest and best use, including efficiency, productivity, and strategic goals of the University. This role involves creating lab programming documents including floor plans and elevations, assessing space utilization, recommending improvements, and ensuring that the layout complies with safety, accessibility, and organizational requirements. The Associate Director will collaborate with various teams, including facilities management, design teams and department managers, and users to deliver effective research space solutions that align with university needs.
Working Environment
The Space Planner may work in an office environment but may also be required to visit other locations to assess physical spaces or monitor projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Desired Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Facilities Management, Physical Sciences, Engineering or similar.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in space planning, project management, or a related role. Experience with Laboratory management a plus.

Essential Duties
- Space Analysis & Planning: Evaluate and analyze the current use of research space, identifying inefficiencies or opportunities for improvement. Develop optimized space plans to meet strategic goals.
- Layout Design & Floor Plans: Create basic laboratory designs and floor plans using CAD software or other planning tools.
- Needs Assessment: Conduct interviews or assessments with department heads or stakeholders to understand space requirements, workflow needs, and future growth plans.
- Space Utilization: Monitor and track space utilization, recommending adjustments or renovations to accommodate changing organizational needs or to improve the efficiency of space usage.
- Equipment Planning: Determine the placement of workstations, storage, and laboratory equipment to best utilize available space while meeting the needs of the researcher.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with the Senior Director, project and facilities teams to ensure space plans align with building codes, design guidelines, and university policies.
- Budget Management: Work closely with design teams and researchers to define required laboratory facilities within budget constraints.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure that all space designs adhere to Laboratory safety standards, building regulations, and accessibility guidelines (e.g., ADA compliance).
- Project Management: Lead or support space planning projects from conception to completion, ensuring timelines and project goals are met.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of space plans, usage reports, and project documentation. Present findings or recommendations to director, senior leadership or stakeholders.
