The Associate Category Manager is responsible for purchasing high-quality meat products for a retail or wholesale business. Under the direction of the Vice President of Procurement, the Associate Category Manager is responsible for supporting the execution of the procurement department. This individual works closely with vendors and suppliers to negotiate prices, assess product quality, and ensure timely delivery of goods. The Associate Category Manager is also responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels and placing orders as needed.
Responsibilities
Assist in developing a sourcing strategy to maintain proper inventory, given the context of our business and niche supply chain values
Monitor movement of items to plan and adjust par inventory levels for replenishment buyers as needed
Work closely with the to manage raw material inventories, production schedules, align production to supply and product timelines, and maintain vendor performance tracking
Track yield at further processing facilities and identifies opportunities for yield and cost improvement
Support pricing effectiveness and recommendations based on analysis and competitive shops, including everyday SRPs and promotional pricing. Set calendar for pricing maintenance and management
Support category reviews and SKU rationalization with all internal stakeholders
Develop and participate in vendor relationships and serve as point on some
Work with suppliers, CommercialRevOps and marketing team on promotional strategies, deals and discounts
Analyze and support category demand and production forecasts and inventory needs through data, trends, knowledge, and events
Work closely with analytics team to make data-driven decisions and pull together necessary data to make decisions
Negotiate prices and terms for meat purchases
Evaluate product quality and ensure that products meet the company's standards
Support and drive new retail and wholesale business orders
Monitor and track deliveries to ensure timely receipt of goods
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of purchases and inventory levels
Collaborate with the Commercial and marketing teams to develop and execute promotions and product launches
Participate in industry events and trade shows to stay informed about industry trends and innovations
Requirements
5+ years' experience in meat purchasing and supply chain operations
5+ years' experience in the food industry
3+ years' experience in retail or food service industries
A passion for high quality meat products and transforming the meat industry
Experience with international beef purchasing and import requirements is ideal
Experience with beef whole carcass programs and management of a beef cutout
Advanced experience and proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Applications
Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced work environment that is managing complex niche meat supply chains
Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills
Familiarity with meat production plant operations, equipment, and food safety is a plus
Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI is a plus
Familiarity with meat industry markets and driving factors preferred
Willingness to travel domestically
Must enjoy working with a fun, meaty team!
$108,000 - $125,000 a year
