Summary:
The Associate Controller assumes responsibility for the financial reporting process for VCU. This position is responsible for all areas leading to the creation of the annual financial statements. This includes managing the functional part of system upgrades and implementations, quarterly reporting on audit findings, ARMICS, cost accounting, grants and contracts, fixed assets, etc. The Associate Controller leads the administrative effectiveness effort for Controller's unit for SACSCOC, attends staff meetings, assists Controller with board of visitors reporting and policy development and updates, and fields day-to-day questions from departments. The Associate Controller provides operational management for a team of finance professionals. Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or similar area.
- Must possess a current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
- Minimum of ten years of experience, in financial accounting, reporting, and management and a demonstrated understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and GASB and FASB standards, including significant and progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial operations.
- Demonstrated ability in financial analysis.
- Strong planning, problem-solving, customer service and management skills, including strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to lead, manage, and mentor a team of professionals.
- Strong personal computer and related skills and experience with Financial System applications.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to think in a progressive and collaborative manner with University stakeholder groups.
- Experience building effective and collaborative relationships at all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality customer service.
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience at an institution of higher education in accounting or financial operations.
- Experience in governmental accounting.
- Working familiarity with Banner.
