Job Description:

SUNY College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill seeks the inaugural Associate Dean for Agriculture and Academics. This is an exciting time at the College, as we engage in what it means to deliver education to prepare students for the future of agriculture and technology. The Associate Dean will have oversight of the campus agricultural enterprise and will collaborate with campus entities to ensure that the academic and laboratory facilities combine to deliver the next generation of education in the fields of agriculture and technology.

In addition, this individual will assist the Dean of the Faculty in the areas of student success, academic policy and procedures, curriculum research and development, faculty recruitment and retention, and budget development and administration. The Associate Dean will also serve as a first point of contact for the Dean's office regarding academic-related concerns from students, will ensure that faculty questions and concerns are addressed in a timely manner and that a dean-level presence is maintained at advisory board meetings, grant review opportunities, program review sessions, recruitment events, and external community events.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Dean of the Faculty in the following areas:
    • Oversight of academic and farm/facility budgets
    • Curriculum and micro-credential development
    • Guidance and support for students with academic concerns
    • Managing/expanding industry relationships for academic programs
    • Attend advisory committee and program review meetings as needed
    • Attend meetings in the Dean's absence or upon request, as appropriate
  • Implementation of recommendations from the recent "Farm Summit" working group on the function of campus agricultural labs in integration with and support of the academic curriculum
  • Oversight and staff supervision for campus farm, fish hatchery, greenhouse and other educational facilities and laboratories, including supervision of Farm Coordinator and campus Instructional Support staff, in collaboration with appropriate Department Chairs and the Dean of the Faculty
  • Serve as agricultural expert to advise academic affairs leadership and serve on agricultural committees and task forces at the College and within the external community
  • Serve as Academic Affairs liaison to the Office of Facilities Management and contribute to upcoming "Facilities Master Plan" development
  • Address personnel matters as the first point-of-contact and make recommendations to the Dean and/or other offices, as appropriate
  • Serve as primary liaison between the Registrar, Academic Advisement, and the Dean's Office
  • Coordination of the onboarding process for new part-time and full-time faculty and faculty professional development
  • Serve as campus representative for SUNY-related programming and initiatives, as appropriate
  • Meet with academic dean and department chairs on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Provide support as appropriate for the Associate for Grants and Sponsored Programs
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Faculty


Requirements:

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated record of collaboration across units, management of projects/initiatives, and a commitment to student success and will have served in an academic department chair or other administrative leadership role, preferably for a minimum of four years. Additionally, the successful applicant will have demonstrated experience and expertise related to the field of Agriculture. Terminal degree in candidate's area of expertise is required and the candidate should be qualified to hold the rank of Associate Professor or higher in a field of study offered at SUNY Cobleskill.

Additional Information:
  • This is a 12-month Management Confidential (MC) position with a salary of $90,000 - $95,000
  • Anticipated start date is Summer 2025.
