UVA | Northern Virginia at the University of Virginia seeks applications for an Associate Director of Communications to join their team. The Associate Director will oversee all internal and external communication for UVA | Northern Virginia as it relates to business development, public relations and website/social media for both brand awareness and a vast audience range of programming. The Northern Virginia initiative is an entrepreneurial unit, and will address a range of innovative, evolving educational opportunities in the Northern Virginia region and beyond. This position will report to the Executive Director.

Areas of Responsibility

Communications
  • Leads a wide variety of communications activities, across unit programming and development efforts.
  • May author regular internal and external communications, newsletters, emails, website updates for a variety of audiences.
  • Collaborates with UVA Schools and Units on activities (e.g., programs, events) in Northern Virginia.
  • Coordinates the form and content of external documents - proposals, contracts, and collateral materials - that are used in the organization's business development work with external clients.
  • Proofreads and edits unit communications to ensure consistency with University style guidelines and uphold the UVA | Northern Virginia brand identity.
Website
  • Manages the website content and works with Schools and units across the university to ensure content is updated and aligns with the UVA | Northern Virginia brand.
  • Analyzes website data to make recommendations on strategic changes.
Social Media & Content
  • Responsible for authorizing and monitoring all social media communication.
  • Develops content to build awareness of Northern Virginia programming.
  • Coordinates posts with other UVA schools and units.
Marketing
  • Updates UVA | Northern Virginia brand and awareness marketing for consistency of mission and messaging.
  • Works for Schools and Units to understand enrollment marketing needs for Northern Virginia programming and coordinates efforts with internal offices and external vendor on enrollment marketing needs.
Administration
  • Manages and presents regular reports and review of metrics, gauging success of initiatives, and making recommendations for adjusted strategies, as appropriate.
  • Represents UVA | Northern Virginia in UVA marketing and communication meetings
  • Hires, trains and mentors student employees.
  • Maintains a filing and record keeping system of communication assets.
  • Prepares budget proposals and manages fiscal resources within area.
  • Administers HubSpot CRM and provides team training to ensure effective system utilization.
  • Manages senior leadership schedules.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Master's degree.
Experience: At least five years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Work Location & Hours

This position is located in Northern Virginia and will require in-office presence. This is a full-time, exempt level, benefited position with UVa benefits operating during regular business hours with occasional evening hours during events (once/month). Employees benefits package highlights include:

The anticipated salary range is $90,000-100,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position will remain open until filled but preference will be given to applications received by May 7, 2025. This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
