Opportunity
Manage and lead the activities of the associates in the Project Management department who lead large, complex projects on a domestic and global scale as well as providing technical design/development guidance and leadership required in the areas of Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and HVAC Engineering.
Review the preparation and execution of Project Management activities and performance measurement. Develop, plan, support, and implement strategies that increase overall effectiveness of facility, space, workplace, and industrial utilization. Lead the efforts to develop and maintain standard project management procedures. Mentor Project Managers in team leadership skills. Provide departmental administration in the areas of capital planning, financial planning, strategic planning, resource management and personnel administration.
Provide engineering leadership to Supervisors and Project Managers on all major projects. The work shall encompass all phases of construction: site searches, feasibility studies, conceptual & final designs, equipment lists and layouts, specifications, project scheduling, bid tendering & negotiation, project accounting, construction administration, punch lists, troubleshooting and project close out.
This role is responsible for facility risk assessment that ranges from evaluating property condition to property loss due to catastrophic events such as fire. The Facilities Engineering Department provides risk mitigation options with costs and recommendations as a service to Kohler Co. business units. Then assists with the development of strategic short- and long-term budget planning. By providing a comprehensive look at the overall health of facilities, system reliability increases, operating costs are reduced, and service life of building and infrastructure systems are extended.

The salary range for this position is $156,000 - $201,900. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.

Specific Responsibilities
- Partner with Business Unit Executive(s) to ensure that objectives and strategic direction are achieved and maintained.
- Supervise the Project Management & Facilities Engineering department which includes Project Managers and Facility Engineers, both domestically and abroad, for all Greenfield activities.
- Supervise the development of Project Managers in the Project Management organization, through formal training, coaching, and standard operating procedures.
- Supervise the Kohler Project Management process (KPM) review meetings and direct efforts to routinely review and update the procedures and templates utilized in the KPM process.
- Meet with business groups to identify new projects and support Kohler Company's continued domestic and international growth by providing the appropriate Project Management and engineering services for site selection activities and for the design and construction of new facilities and major facility expansions.
- Develop procedures and strategies that enhance Kohler Co's effectiveness at project delivery and standardization across the portfolio of global projects.
- Assure that project ACTs provide the most cost-effective solutions and provide achievable results.
- Review and approve project budgets, schedules, quality standards and project support requirements developed by Project Managers.
- Supervise and assist Project Managers and engineers during the process of due diligence and programming for site selection, brownfield acquisition, greenfield development, facility expansions, and workplace renovations.
- Supervise and assist Project Managers and Engineers in the development of project documentation to include specifications and design documents to support project content, goals and objectives.
- Research and implement industry best practices and construction delivery methods.
- Supervise and assist Project Managers and Engineers in the implementation of the design and construction phase of the project through review of bid documents, contractor qualification and selection, and contracting for required design and construction services.
- Supervise and assist Project Managers to manage the implementation phase of the project through monitoring and reviewing the design and construction activities and their impact on project budget and schedule while ensuring compliance with construction documentation and obtaining required approvals.
- Supervise and assist the Project Managers in construction and contract administration by monitoring the contractor's work sequence, schedule, safety, payment applications, design and construction quality and taking corrective action as required, culminating with final acceptance of the completed work.
- Supervise and assist Project Managers in the administrative closure of contracts and ensure delivery of all necessary documentation to the business group responsible for operations of the facility.
- Prepare detailed and summary project reports as required for management presentation.
- Communicate the project to support departments and direct their activities to provide expertise as required by project scope and content.
- Ability to act as a change agent, communicating effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Travel domestically and/or internationally up to 35% average per year. Short-term peak travel periods could be up to 50%.
- Review and prepare departmental budgets and documents in support of Kohler's planning programs.
Skills/Requirements
- Requires B.S. degree in engineering or science with a minimum of 12 years of related experience in major technical project management.
- A working knowledge of engineering fields related to facility design and construction. (MBA or MS in Engineering Management preferred.)
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Significant experience mentoring project teams and team leaders is required.
- Position is action oriented requiring the incumbent to creatively plan and execute construction programs with limited resources.
- Professional Registration is desirable but not required.
