The Associate Engineer is an entry-level position providing engineering support for the planning, design and construction of the District's public water supply, infrastructure projects and related systems. This position is designed to gain hands-on experience and support while working toward a professional license in civil engineering.

Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with engineering staff and project teams on the design, planning, coordination and execution of district construction projects to ensure they are built in accordance with project plans, timelines and specifications.
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of engineering plans in compliance with jurisdictional regulations, industry standard, and District requirements. Reviews plans of regional projects that potentially impact the District's infrastructure and facilities.
  • Assist with project set-up, bid specifications and solicitation of documents, contract administration and compiles records upon project completion.
  • Analyze short and long-range planning studies, reports, surveys, impact studies, property descriptions, maps and other date to inform project designs.
  • Conduct on-site inspections to verify project design requirements, specifications and safety regulations.
  • Participate in interagency coordination, pre-construction, and other stakeholder meetings to ensure District interests are addressed.
  • Assist with new service requests, annexations, development and land use review, hydraulic analysis, preparing service agreements, and related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field, an Engineering-Intern (EI) certification, or ability to obtain within one year, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Ability and skill to perform engineering calculations, analysis and modeling; read and interpret drawings, technical documents, and plans and specifications. Skilled at adapting to evolving engineering practices and technology, utilizing analytical and critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, consistent demonstration of organizational and time management, and motivated to learn and take on new challenges toward obtaining professional license.

PREFERRED: Experience in water infrastructure or public works projects with hands-on experience in design, project management, bid specifications and contract administration. Experience with design, analysis and project management software tools.
