Campus: La Porte High School

Direct and manage the instructional program and supervise operations and personnel at the campus level. Provide leadership to ensure high standards for instructional services; oversee adherence to district policies. Actively engage in actions that promote the mission and strategic plans of La Porte ISD.

Job Qualifications

Education/Certification:
  • Master's Degree
  • Texas Administrator's or Mid-Management Certificate
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • T-TESS and AEL or ILD/ILT Certification or willing to obtain

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of campus operations and curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Strong understanding of strategic planning and implementation processes
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions and support operations

Experience
  • Three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
  • Three years' experience in instructional leadership roles
  • Three years of campus leadership experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Management
  • Monitor and coach the instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use these findings to develop actions for continuous improvement.
  • Lead staff in the systematic planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instruction; include students and community representatives (when appropriate).
  • Ensure provision of instructional resources and materials that support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Develop a comprehensive campus master schedule that maximizes campus resources, staffing, and addresses instructional needs.
  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff; encourage their active involvement in the decision process.
  • Ensure two-way communication with the principal, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Communicate and promote expectation for high-level performance from staff and students; recognize excellence and achievement.
  • Facilitate effective and timely resolution of conflicts.


  • School/Organizational Climate
  • Proactively lead and establish a school culture that is positive, inclusive, and focused on high-expectations for students and staff.
  • Lead the collaborative development of the campus improvement plan based on a common vision; Lead implementation of initiatives and strategies with staff to ensure attainment of campus goals.
  • Facilitate a comprehensive campus needs assessment to Identify and analyze needs; apply understandings of current research and best practices to guide improvement initiatives.
  • Regularly meet with the site-based decision-making committee (CPOC) to review campus initiatives, performance, and goals.
  • Develop, maintain, and use appropriate information systems and records to show campus progress.


  • Personnel Management
  • Interview, select and orient new staff.
  • Define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and professional communication.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with all assigned staff.
  • Make recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, promotion, and dismissal.
  • Develop relevant professional learning experiences for campus staff aligned to goals and needs.
  • Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth; work jointly with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of assistant principals(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian(s), and paraprofessional staff as assigned.


  • Campus Operation Management
  • Demonstrates initiative and leadership by taking ownership in all campus matters, proactively problem-solving, and ensuring effective daily campus operations.
  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations affecting the schools.
  • Oversee the development of campus and department budgets based on program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal considerations; implement programs within budget limits; maintain fiscal control; accurately report fiscal information.
  • Manage the use of school facilities; supervise maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.


  • Student Management
  • Develop, implement, and monitor student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate in collaboration with campus administrators, staff, students and community.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in collaboration with administrative team.
  • Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.


  • Professional Growth and Development
  • Lead the professional growth and learning of all assistant principals and teacher-leaders, providing ongoing leadership coaching, mentoring, feedback and learning opportunities.
  • Actively seek feedback on job performance from a variety of stakeholders; participate in professional learning to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Observe professional ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.


  • School or Community Relations
  • Deliver compelling messaging grounded in the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a strategic communication plan in collaboration with administration, staff, and students that regularly promotes campus activities, initiatives, and celebrations using multiple channels.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school/community needs and assist in initiating activities to meet those identified needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

    Occasional district and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.

    La Porte ISD contributes $400/monthly to employee only health insurance, which is $175/monthly greater than the state-required minimum contribution of $225/monthly.

    Assignment: 12 Duty Months (220 Days)

    Salary: Administrative PG 3

    Minimum: $80,857

    Midpoint: $95,579
