SUMMARY:
The Athletic Director is responsible for the planning, budgeting, organization, implementation, and supervision of the Athletic Department. This individual will provide maximum participation for students in interscholastic athletics while promoting safe and effective coaching and training methods for the student athletes. This individual will oversee the development of a comprehensive high school athletic and sender program.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
BA or MA in teaching required
Coaching experience required, Head Coaching experience preferred.
Previous experience as an Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required.
Administrative endorsement (Type 75, Teacher Leader or Principal endorsement) required.
Certified in First Aid and AED training required.

- Head coaching and teaching experience strongly preferred
- The ability to effectively supervise, train, develop and evaluate staff
- Excellent human relations and organizational skills
- Effectively manage and oversee the athletic budget and finances
- Work with CSL member schools
- Effectively use technology
- Previous event management experience
- Use the database, spreadsheet, and word processing application
- Speak publicly to groups/media and to interact and collaborate with the community

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative/Supervision
- Responsible for the development, promotion of the interscholastic athletic program.
- Responsible for representing athletic programs to the District 113 administration, staff, parents, students and community.
- Assesses department needs through consultation with students, staff, parents and develops policy recommendations for the Board's consideration and action.
- Evaluates the extra-curricular athletic programs and engages in long-range planning.
- Develops and updates brochures, handbooks, and policy manuals.
- Supervises and evaluates the Assistant Athletic Director
- Responsible for the supervision and evaluation of staff
- Responsible for facilitating permits to participate in compliance with IHSA eligibility requirements.
- Responsible for the enforcement and application of the extracurricular code of conduct.
- Attends local, state and national Athletic Director meetings/conferences.
- Responsible for "All Sport Seasons" presentations for coaches, athletes, and parents.
- Responsible for implementation of program/coach evaluation.
- Maintains files and records required by policy, regulation, law and good practice.
- Oversee athletic summer school camps.
Student Leadership/Student Experience:
- Create student/athlete involvement in a positive leadership growth program.
- Create and facilitate leadership programs for students.
Leadership/Mentoring:
- Responsible for deployment of all athletic department initiatives.
- Responsible for development of a coach mentoring program.
- Responsible for the development of Athletic Department goals and annual report.
- Responsible for development of a staff/implementation development plan for coaches.
- Knowledge of topics: nutrition, liability, hazing, strength training, sexual harassment etc.
Fiscal Operations Within the Departments:
- Engages in fiscal planning-both short and long-range.
- Assists in preparing and implementing the school system budget and coordinates department purchasing.
- Recommends capital improvements and negotiated contracts and agreements.
- Administers the receipt and disbursement of student activity cash funds.
- Supervises and guides the fiscal planning/execution of all parent volunteer organizations supporting the high school athletic program.
- Responsible for overall programmatic budgeting and fundraising.
Equipment Management
- Ensures equipment, event, facility, technology, and transportation management.
Event Management - Works with Assistant Athletic Director in:
- Scheduling all athletic competitions with a master athletic schedule.
- Assisting in supervision of athletic events as needed.
- The responsibility for home and visiting team use of facilities.
- Assisting in management/promotion of intramural events.
- Work with coaches/programs for outdoor show implementation.
Facility Management - Works with Assistant Athletic Director in:
- Scheduling athletic facilities use for practice and competition.
- Coordinating the use of DHS Campus facilities with the Deerfield Athletic Department Staff.
- Coordinating the use of facilities with outside agencies.
Technology - Responsible for and/or assist Assistant Athletic Director:
- Development and implementation of student experience measurement tool.
- Update HPHS athletic website
Communication:
- Coordinate information flow to students, staff and parents regarding game schedules, transportation, and cancellations of events.
- Responsible for and/or assist in communication with parents, procedures and protocol for athletic participation.
- Communicate all changes and updates to the Athletics Department staff/coaches.
- Oversees academic eligibility, student behavior and extracurricular code processes.
- Communicate inventory deficiencies with head coaches and Assistant Athletic Director.
Transportation - Monitors Assistant Athletic Director with the following:
- Assisting in travel arrangements for regular season, post season, and summer camp events.
- Identifying needs in protocol or procedures for use of transportation.
- Coordinating transportation and events shared with Deerfield High School.
