Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums, and related oral structures by performing the following duties.
This class of positions encompasses responsible professional work in the dentistry field.
There are three Assignment Levels within this class of positions. All personnel perform related work.
Assignment Level II
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines
2. Maintains current and accurate problem-oriented dental records.
3. Treats dental diseases, injuries and malfunctions of teeth and gums.
4. Determines need for dental and prosthetic appliances.
5. Advises patients about dental health practices and provides dental health education.
6. Consults with the Chief Medical Officer on referral and other matters pertaining to the Center's dental health services.
7. Supervises the assistant in the Dental Department.
8. Takes part in all health center meetings as required.
9. Assists in the planning for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation for the dental unit.
10. Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
11. Facilitates related services for health center patients and Gotham staff as appropriate, with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.
12. Performs other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Dentists Practicing General Dentistry
Assignment Level I
1. Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New York; and
2. One (1) year of full-time licensed experience in the practice of General Dentistry or equivalent experience acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital.
Assignment Level II / Assignment Level III
1. Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New York; and
2. Five (5) years of full-time licensed experience in the practice of General Dentistry acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital.
Dentists Practicing in a Specialty Area
Assignment Level I
1. Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New York; and
2. Currently meets the educational requirements, including residency and/or advanced training for American Board Specialty Certification.
Assignment Level II and Assignment Level III
1. Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New York; and
2. Five (5) years of full-time licensed experience in a field of specialty acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital; and
3. Currently meets the educational requirements, including residency and/or advanced training for American Board of Specialty Certification; and
4. Current approved application on file for admission to the certifying examination given by the appropriate American Specialty Board.
Department Preferences
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:
l. Five years of related experience and/or training preferred.
2. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
3. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
6. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
7. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.
8. Interest in and conviction of purpose and aims for all programs in the clinic.
9. Respect for the rights of individuals to make their own decisions about their medical care.
I 0. Ability to communicate easily and display a cordial manner towards individuals from a variety of cordial manner towards individuals from a variety of socio-economic, cultural and religious backgrounds.
11. This job may require you to travel between clinic sites depending upon scheduling needs.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word), as well as Practice Management and Electronic Medical Record software including Dexis, EPIC, Wisdom (Dental software of EPIC) and Dentrix.
