Position Description
The Criminal Court, Division II of the 20th Judicial District of Tennessee is seeking a full-time Judicial Law clerk.
Typical Duties
The Judicial Law Clerk performs the following:
researches issues of law
writes extensively
assists with trials and other court proceedings
drafts proposed orders
acts as an advisor
makes recommendations based on the law
other duties as assigned
to the Criminal Court Judge, Angelita Blackshear Dalton. The caseload is exclusively criminal with a heavy docket presenting a variety of legal issues.
The office environment is collegial and friendly. There is daily interaction with the Judge, court staff, and attorneys concerning legal and court-related issues, and the position presents a great opportunity to learn how state trial courts operate.
Minimum Qualifications
The applicant must be a law school graduate at the time of appointment, possess excellent research and writing skills, and be able to work efficiently and independently. Previous clerkship experience and/or post-graduate practice experience in criminal law is preferred but not required. The selected candidate will be subject to a background check as a condition of employment.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Employee must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.
Employees are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees
Employees must comply with court confidentiality requirements, including handling confidential information in a variety of contexts.
Employees are "at will" and can be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Final candidate is subject to a background check and subsequent favorable suitability determination.
Starting salary will be commensurate with experience. The salary range is $85,000 to $125,000, depending on years of experience.
