Position Overview:
As an Automation Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and implementing custom machine vision systems for industrial applications. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will define optical, mechanical, electrical, and system requirements to align with customer goals. Using tools such as Autodesk Inventor, you will create CAD models, develop assembly instructions, and oversee multiple phases of a project, including design, prototyping, production, and roll-out support.
This role requires expertise in selecting motion, vision, electrical, and pneumatic components and working closely with production teams to ensure project success. Additionally, you will collaborate with Application Engineers for in-house and on-site integration, debugging, and post-startup support. Candidates with experience in Matrox Design Assistant, Cognex Vision Pro, Python, and OpenCV are highly preferred.

Responsibilities:
Design & Development:
- Design, prototype, and test machine vision system hardware as part of the design team.
- Create CAD drawings for custom systems based on customer requirements.
- Develop electrical schematics and panel layouts following industrial standards.
Customer Engagement:
- Serve as a technical contact throughout the project lifecycle, including customer communication, requirement gathering, and post-integration support.
- Provide training services and customer-facing documentation, including troubleshooting and resolution guides.
Project Execution:
- Troubleshoot complex system-level issues, including system configuration, hardware, and software.
- Develop and document assembly procedures for electro-optical systems.
- Take ownership of technical challenges, collaborating with development teams as needed.
On-Site Support:
- Travel to project sites for audits, requirement analysis, and supervising system integration with customer control systems.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor).
- Experience with electrical design layout software.
- Familiarity with electrical test and lab equipment.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Matrox Design Assistant, Cognex Vision Pro, or similar industrial software.
- Proficiency in Python and OpenCV.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments.
