POSITION SUMMARY: The Automation Engineer is primarily responsible for the following:
The Automation Engineer is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and integration of robotic automation solutions on the manufacturing floor. Also responsible for ongoing continuous improvement automation solutions for new and current projects to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
The Automation Engineer creates and edits engineering drawings and 3D CAD models. This position is a subject matter expert of CAD, design, and 3D Printing, and uses CAD to design tools and fixtures to aid in contract manufacturing.

Automation Projects
- Perform Engineering Calculations
- Design automation-related assemblies and sub-assemblies using 3D CAD software.
- Select components and materials.
- Collaborate with vendors
- Create detailed drawings and Bills of Materials
- Provide cost estimates and potential ROI for new equipment.
- Participate in new equipment innovations, conceptual design.
- Devise creative solutions to engineering problems.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Programming, Scheduling and Maintenance to ensure project readiness.
- Actively seek new technologies and new opportunities for automation
- Develop and lead EQP for new equipment as required.
- Lead automation implementation and ongoing training.
- Provide regular metrics of automation usage and success.
- Monitor, mentor and train others in CAD, Design and 3D printing.
- Generate SolidWorks 3D models and engineering drawings to aid in manufacturing.
- Produce detailed tooling, gage, and fixture engineering drawings both independently and with engineering or subject matter expert input.
- Review engineering drawings to ensure adherence to specifications and standards.
- Perform basic dimensional stack-ups, making adjustments to incorporate best fits.
- Coordinate workload with manufacturing schedule.
- Review and compare incoming customer CAD models to engineering drawing requirements and modify as required with input from Manufacturing Engineers
- Attend pre- and post-production meetings.
- Adhere to the Quality Management System and documented processes.
- Notify the Quality Manager of Non-Conformances
- Inform the Engineering Manager of potential deviations from documented processes or standards.
- 3D Printing
- Risk assessment test builds.
- Proof of concept builds
- Fixture builds
- Work holding builds.
- General operation
- Schedule management
- Fixture support for production, finishing, and laser marking.
- Work with Engineering to resolve engineering drawing or 3D model discrepancies.
- Adhere to Company policies as defined in the Employee Handbook
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or technical discipline.
- EXPERIENCE: 3+ years' experience in mechanical drafting using CAD and Solid Works experience accepted OR demonstrated ability to execute the Essential Functions for this position. 5 years' experience within a manufacturing, medical device company or other similarly regulated manufacturing environment preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Good working knowledge of dimensioning and geometric tolerances
- Familiarity with machining, finishing and assembly processes.
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis.
- Working knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, MS Project)
- Understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software
