WFUSM Basic Science Discipline Director
The Wake Forest University School of Medicine Office of Undergraduate Medical Education is seeking a Discipline Director and Medical Educator to join the medical school campus in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The Discipline Director and Medical Educator will be part of a Winston Salem-based team responsible for the design and delivery of curriculum for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston Salem, NC with a focus on physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, and evidence-based medicine. The foundational science faculty will be appointed on a non-tenure track with academic rank commensurate based on experience.

The WFUSM curriculum is a state-of-the-art integrated curriculum that incorporates didactic, team-based, case-based and simulation learning to create a robust environment for learning. Students begin with a 18 month Foundations phase of pre-clerkship learning that begins with dedicated cadaveric training in clinical anatomy and physiology followed by instruction in biochemistry, cell biology, medical genetics, immunology, and infectious disease that develop the basis for subsequent learning of organ system pathophysiology. We are seeking a highly motivated Discipline Director and Medical Educator to serve as content expert and core teaching faculty member. While duties will include instruction in Clinical Anatomy and Physiology, Metabolism and Defense, Microbiology and Infectious Disease, the faculty will also be expected to take on teaching responsibilities broadly within the Foundations phase of training to support growth and expansion of student training.
Ideal candidates will have experience in curricular design and interactive instructional methods along with exceptional content expertise. Additionally, ideal candidates will have the ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams on a foundational science curriculum that is grounded in integrating biomedical science and clinical concepts and is delivered through interactive and inquiry-based methodologies, with multi-modal techniques and small group learning.
Faculty responsibilities will primarily be within the domain of medical education. These responsibilities will include didactic instruction in courses within the Foundations phase of the curriculum. Responsibilities will also include development and oversight of discipline-related content and assessments. While medical education will be the priority for each faculty member, allocation of time and effort for research and scholarship, student scholarly mentoring, and institutional service will be required. Opportunities exist for scholarly collaborations with teammates in Charlotte and Winston-Salem campuses providing faculty the opportunity to participate in the broader academic community.

Qualifications:
- M.D. D.O., or Ph.D. in foundational/biomedical sciences, or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of experience with medical education or related fields, including, but not limited to, small group learning facilitation and curriculum oversight. Five or more years preferred.
- Experience in applying the principles of adult learning theory, development of competency-based education, and assessment of student learning (skills, knowledge, and attitudes) through course, module, or new content development.
