Benefits/HRIS Generalist - Position and Responsibilities
As a Benefits/HRIS Generalist with Middough, you will partner with the VP of Human Resources and a Benefits team member to lead employee benefit programs, benefit renewals, annual benefit open enrollment, annual compliance reporting, HRIS system management, benefit/leave policy administration, benefit administration/reporting, wellness programs, employee customer service, and work closely with the company benefit broker. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Implement and administer employee benefits programs such as medical, vision and dental plans, life insurance plan, retirement plan, short- and long-term disability programs, supplemental benefit programs, and flexible/health spending accounts.
- Administer the company 401k savings plan compliance and reporting requirements which includes communications and partnership with plan record keeper and VP of HR for annual non-discrimination testing and 5500 compliance reporting.
- Process monthly benefit carrier invoice audits and payments timely and accurately.
- Update and maintain the employee data within the HRIS modules; partner with the Information Systems department to implement HRIS updates/changes/configurations.
- Process and handle the annual ACA compliance reporting through ADP Workforce Now.
- Coordinate the annual wellness program by partnering with the benefit broker and benefit carriers.
- Partner with VP of HR to analyze and propose new and/or enhanced benefits for the annual benefit renewal.
- Coordinate and handle the annual benefit open enrollment program through partnership with the benefit broker. Responsibilities include the open enrollment process/timeline, employee communications/meetings, annual benefit guides, training, data reporting to vendors, ADP Workforce Now benefit plan setup, and audits.
- Ensure annual benefit plan descriptions, benefit agreements, and insurance policies are prepared and distributed per requirements.
- Counsel employees on existing benefit programs through timely and accurate communications.
- Work with VP of HR to ensure company compliance with Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), VETS reporting, and EEO-1 reporting. Handle the preparation of applicable reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissions, and other regulatory agencies.
- Review and analyze changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits; report required changes to VP of HR.
- Build and maintain professional working partnerships with corporate departments (such as Payroll, IT, IS, and Marketing) and all employees and management teams across the company.
- Manage both the electronic and hard copy filing of all human resources records.
- Other benefit and HR responsibilities as assigned.
Education, Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field.
- 15+ years of direct hands-on benefit experience around health/welfare plans, retirement plans, disability and life plans, HRIS management, leave management, and compliance reporting is required.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Oracle, Epicor, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 desirable.
- SHRM credential(s) highly desirable.
- Work experience in a professional, technical, or consulting environment highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Highly effective and engaging verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills at all levels in the organization while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- High degree of integrity in adhering to corporate policy and within all HR activities.
- Excellent ability to take initiative, be self-motivated, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office applications.
