The Energy Storage Lead Electrical and System Integration Engineer is responsible for supporting the full life cycle of the Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS) product line from customer intake of requirements to product delivery. Duties will include the architect, design, debugging, troubleshooting and testing to validate the product is built to customer specifications. Collaboration with internal teams will be a day-to-day responsibility to define requirements and interfaces with the BESS product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Architecting, designing and supporting development of electrical and embedded systems for battery energy storage systems.
  • Lead system design of AC coupled energy storage system, including bi-directional inverter development, communication systems, and electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, hardware engineers, firmware engineers, etc, to define system level requirements and interfaces for BESS product.
  • Responsible for industry compliance such as IEEE 1547, UL 1741SB, UL 9540, etc.
  • Debug and troubleshoot electrical, hardware, and firmware integration issues, utilizing appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Lead testing/validation and identify product gaps. Must be familiar with DFMEA and DFM techniques.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to gather requirements and provide technical direction when needed.
  • Create and manage clear and concise documentation for all designs, development processes, and project deliverables.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years (minimum, 10+ desired) of proven inverter development experience in renewable energy with an emphasis on commercial solar and/or energy storage specifically
  • Deep knowledge and capability in product compliance to grid codes and other required functionality and certifications (IEEE 1547, UL 1741SB, UL 9540, etc)
  • Strong understanding of energy management systems and microgrids, system level communication and control architecture and protocols, etc.
  • Experience with project/installation level codes such NFPA 70, NFPA 855, etc.
  • Experience with commercial solar and storage installation professionals and products
  • Experience in commercial building projects and project management
  • Strong leader who takes accountability of individual and team performance
  • Up to 25% travel is expected
