FNA is seeking a dynamic individual to join our senior management team as the Director of Behavioral Health Services. In this position you will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all behavioral health programs and services within Fairbanks Native Association. This role is pivotal in shaping the vision and direction of behavioral health initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and fostering a culture of excellence in care delivery. The BHS Director is a member of the FNA senior management team and will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service accessibility, quality, and integration, while promoting mental health/substance abuse awareness and support. This position serves as the medical officer for the unit.

Primary Job Duties:
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of all behavioral health programs, ensuring they meet quality standards and best practices.
  • Manages program budgets, optimizes funding opportunities, and ensures financial sustainability of programs. Maintains fiscal accountability for program and client pay funds.
  • Ensures Medicaid standards and billing compliance.
  • Maintains overall compliance with FNA policies and ensures granting source requirements and objectives for program compliance.
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.


NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage resources, and oversee organizational change.
  • Skills in developing and implementing strategic plans that align with organizational goals and community needs.
  • Ability to manage budgets, optimize funding sources, and ensure financial sustainability of programs.
  • In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local mental health laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices in behavioral health treatment, including psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy.
  • Empathy, compassion, and innovation are key attributes of the candidate seeking this position. Must be able to understand challenges faced by individuals, be open to innovative ideas and practices, and be able to respond effectively to crises, ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers and staff.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in Alaska Native/American Indian treatment programs including specific cultural, spiritual, and traditional needs of Indigenous people.


Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in psychology, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field; Doctorate preferred.
  • Six (6) years of progressive leadership experience in behavioral health or related fields.
  • Three (3) years of administrative/supervisory experience.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and engage in effective problem-solving.
