Job Summary: The Plant HR Manager is responsible for managing employee relations activities at designated branch plant locations. This includes ensuring compliance with HR-related legislation and regulations (e.g., PIPEDA, ESA, CNESST, WSIB) to mitigate legal risks and maintain non-union status where applicable. The role involves conducting employee morale and wage/benefit surveys, analyzing employment trends, and providing actionable recommendations to management. Additionally, the HR Manager supports local hourly recruitment (including diversity hiring), advises on policy interpretation, and assists with performance management, discipline, restructuring, and benefits administration.

What You'll Be Doing:
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning:
  • Participate in salaried and key leader selection processes.
  • Drive structured interview practices at plant locations.
  • Identify and resolve workforce planning and hiring concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, legal standards, and diversity initiatives in recruitment.
  • Support onboarding and assimilation of new managers.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Partner with Corporate Compensation to design competitive local compensation programs.
  • Communicate pension, retirement, and wage increase programs effectively.
  • Implement compensation changes (e.g., spot bonuses, job structures, base rates) consistently.
  • Train local teams on compensation and benefits administration.

Compliance & Employee Relations:
  • Maintain awareness of new labor laws and support local implementation.
  • Conduct annual harassment and workplace violence training.
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias training (when available).
  • Provide guidance on performance issues, conflict resolution, and policy application (e.g., Level A policies).
  • Foster open communication and positive relationships with salaried/hourly employees.

Labor Relations (Unionized Environments):
  • Build relationships with local unions and plant union representatives.
  • dminister collective agreements and manage grievances with Labor Relations support.

Systems & Operational Support
  • Utilize HR systems (e.g., KRONOS, SIMON, Workday) for payroll, benefits, and workforce management.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to balance employee and business needs.

Basic Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field.
  • 7+ years of direct HR experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Fluency in English and French (written/spoken) for daily communication with employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian labor laws & regulations (PIPEDA, ESA, CNESST, WSIB).

Preferred:
  • 10+ years of HR experience in manufacturing.
  • Master's degree or HR certification (HRCI/SHRM).

Must-Haves:
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/French) to support multi-site operations (Terrebonne & Mississauga).
