BIM/CAD Manager

BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.

Position Summary

BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Mid-Level BIM/CAD Manager to join our team, supporting FBI Architectural Engineering Services Unit (AESU) at the FBI North Campus at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. Services include assisting the AESU's staff in meeting the increasing requirements of the FBI's Finance and Facilities Division, through providing preliminary planning, feasibility studies, functional studies, conceptual designs, development of design intent documents, and development and technical review of construction documents for renovation and construction projects. Construction estimating and review, project facilitation and inspection services during construction of projects may also be necessary. The contractor acts in the government's interests at all times. The services are meant to expand AESU's capabilities to successfully accomplish its mission.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain portfolio, AutoCAD and Revit Libraries
  • Use AutoCAD to create blocks, sheet sets, space objects, polylines, and layer management
  • Use Revit to create families, renderings, and managing models
  • Independently lead a local team consisting of facilities professionals and Operations and Maintenance personnel in creating BIM standards and procedures
  • Work with other BIM/CAD Managers to establish BIM standards and procedures for other Bureau owned facilities
  • Digitally create design intent drawings, space plans, test fits, stack-plans, area plans, plot plans, and building calculations
  • Work with project teams to integrate submittals, manufacturers' data and as-built information into the BIM model in order to enhance the model's Facilities Management Capabilities
  • Work with project teams to extract quantities of material and production from the model
  • Work with project teams to integrate BIM into the RFI process in order to more clearly communicate information
  • Review technical documentation and drawings against as-builts for technical accuracy and completeness
  • Visit job sites and make preliminary layouts to check critical design problems and/or to re-check problem areas
  • Work from work orders as well as verbal and written instructions to perform duties
  • Consult with appropriate individuals as required
  • Incorporate drafting standards and procedures and other national building standards as required
  • Develop knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Structural schematics and drawings
  • Continue to develop professional knowledge with regards to Architecture, AutoCAD, and BIM
  • Coordinate with AESU peer colleagues, FBI Project Managers, customers and other Bureau personnel/contractors, and other project team members on projects as necessary
  • Other similar or related services not of a decision-making nature
  • Miscellaneous services which will require proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project
  • Assist in the development of reports and studies
  • Exhibit good customer service skills and be a cooperative team player
  • Multitask and take on multiple projects or assignments simultaneously
  • Collaborate and assist in resolving critical and possibly controversial issues with a multidisciplined team of architects, engineers and federal agency clients
  • Understand and implement standards as outlined in the POR, Campus Design Guides and Construction Standards; suggest edits or updates to these documents, as applicable

Key Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship and theability to obtain a minimum, unescorted access to FBI facilities is required; Secret security clearance in JPAS at time of award is required; ability to obtain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance in support of the FBI is required
  • Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Structural schematics and drawings
  • Working knowledge of office furniture, wall types, light fixtures, warehouse, and industrial equipment
  • Professional knowledge regarding Architecture, AutoCAD, and BIM
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Software: Proficiency in the most current version of Revit and AutoCAD, and MS Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines concurrently
  • Personality Type: Must be comfortable as a collaborator and communicator who adapts well to field conditions

Experience & Education
  • Experience: 5 to 10 years' CAD/BIM experience in commercial/government office building design and construction; specialized experience in either new construction or renovation of highly technical facilities projects such as secure government facilities, laboratories, data centers, office buildings, training centers and housing facilities with estimated construction cost of $5-$100M
  • Education: A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms
  • Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs.
