The Biodynamics Section needs to fill a DR-0801/0830/0858-02 (GS-12/13 equivalent) Biomedical Engineer position.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Plans and conducts research and test & evaluation to optimize Airman health and performance in operational environments important to the United States Air Force and Space Force through evaluating the effects of biodynamic forces on the human body.
- Determines technical approaches then executes test & evaluation on human health risks due to acceleration exposure, including but not limited to crash, emergency escape, flight/space maneuvers, and whole-body vibration.
- Advises on new system designs and design improvements, as well as countermeasures to prevent or mitigate health hazard risks due to accelerative exposure.
- Manages technical research and testing efforts with outside organizations and participates in cross-organizational research teams.
- Manages cost/schedule/performance of biodynamics projects and programs and reports status to leadership, as necessary.
- Performs data processing and analysis of inertial response data collected during in-house and field experiments.
- Maintains currency with professional affiliations through scientific review, professional presentation, and interaction with other government and scientific agencies.

Required Qualifications
- This position may be filled as a 5-year Flexible Length and Renewable Term Technical Appointment (new government hires, current government term employees, etc.) with the option to later convert to a permanent appointment.
- United States Citizens

- This position is a non-critical sensitive position. Applicants must possess at least a Secret Clearance.
- This position may require travel.
- This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position and requires Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level 2 (Practitioner) certification in Engineeering & Technical Management.
- SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year or 52 weeks of specialized experience at the next lower grade of position being advertised, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Desired Qualifications
1. Educational Background:
- Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field
2. Experience:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in Biomedical Engineering
- Experience with impulse acceleration testing experience
- Familiarity with crashworthiness standards such as SAE-J211, MIL-HDBK-516, AS8049, etc.
- Computational modeling experience using MATLAB, Ls-Dyna, MSC-ADAMS or equivalent.
- Experience with human subject research data and safeguarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
- Knowledge and experience with Air Force operations, objectives, principles, and methods
3. Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to conduct research in the field of Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on impulse acceleration testing, to develop new technologies and improve existing ones
- Proficiency in data analysis and writing technical reports
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve and generate innovative science and technology solutions
- Background in organizing, coordinating, and executing team assignments
- Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to multitask with strong organizational skills
