Role Overview:

The Executive Director of Marketing and Communications oversees the large-scale strategic plan and implementation of the agency's communications and marketing initiatives. This role leads a team of three individuals focused on crafting engaging marketing plans to promote agency services and initiatives. This role also guides internal communications and must collaborate across the organization to ensure all team members receive information critical to their role. The incumbent reports to the Chief Communications Officer.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Help develop and execute a comprehensive departmental strategic plan aligning with BMV's mission and objectives
Directly manage a team of marketing and communications professionals to ensure alignment with organizational goals
Conceptualize and implement statewide media strategies and brand awareness campaigns, focusing on major initiatives like BMV Connect and Ride Safe Indiana
Prepare and provide updates to the Commissioner and the Governor's office regarding any matters within the Executive Director of Communications' responsibilities that are likely to have a significant impact on the agency
Collaborate with external organizations and team members to plan, coordinate, and promote public announcements and events for the BMV
Continuously monitor project milestones, adapt marketing and communications strategies as needed, and communicate progress to senior leadership
Work closely with operations, finance, and other teams to align initiatives with the strategic plan
Support communications team by writing, editing, and approving various types of content including: Speeches and talking points for leadership, Press releases, and Other items as needed
Aid in content development on specific areas of the BMV website, internal SharePoint site, and related microsites
Coordinate contracts and sponsorships with third-party vendors to enhance agency awareness and image
Oversee the creation and publishing of annual reports
Foster a collaborative team environment that supports innovation, creativity, and continuous learning
Assess and evaluate the work performance of team members to ensure alignment with departmental goals
Work collaboratively with BMV subject matter experts, reporters, and external stakeholders to obtain and share accurate information and communicate effectively and in a timely manner through the appropriate means

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Marketing, Journalism, or other related field and 6+ years of experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing direct reports
Alternatively, 10+ years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing direct reports, would be considered.

Experience
Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience is a plus
5+ years' experience drafting/editing all content types including but not limited to social copy, press releases, emails, display ads, web pages, presentations, and video scripts
Deep understanding of SEO, content marketing, and analytics to inform strategy and measure success
Proficiency supervising others, training and developing staff, taking appropriate disciplinary/corrective actions when necessary, and making hiring/termination recommendations
Background in maintaining working relationships with agency employees and relevant outside stakeholders
Exposure to federal and state rules and regulations relating to motor vehicle laws is a plus
Demonstrated success in building memorable major campaigns that drive measurable outcomes.
