About the position
The Boston Teacher Residency Clinical Teacher Educator (BTR CTE), STEM is responsible for teaching science or math content methods, developing coursework that addresses research and theory on content development in the secondary grades, and applying evidence-based practices to the classroom. The STEM CTE is also responsible for coaching residents in secondary science, math, and computer science, ensuring that all novices develop the knowledge and skills required to be effective teachers capable of driving significant learning and achievement for all students. Reporting to the BTR Director, BTR CTEs contribute to a shared and distributive leadership model on the BTR team.

Boston Plan for Excellence operates a PreK-12 pathway of neighborhood-based Teaching Academies-schools that provide a world-class education for all students while preparing outstanding new teachers for successful, sustainable careers as urban educators. We run two Teaching Academies in the Nubian Square neighborhood of Roxbury: Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School and Dearborn STEM Academy. Through Boston Teacher Residency, a nationally recognized and replicated clinical model for training teachers, we prepare aspiring educators for the Boston Public Schools and run a city-wide teacher support network. Students also receive support from Dudley Promise Corps, a one-year neighborhood-based AmeriCorps service program serving in our Teaching Academies.

BPE offers a generous benefits package, including group health, dental, life insurance, a retirement plan, and a vacation allowance. The salary range for a BTR CTE position is $100,000 - $110,000.
Location and Schedule
BPE's office is located in Roxbury, MA. This position requires travel to various Boston Public Schools.

Key Responsibilities
- As members of the BTR leadership team, CTEs contribute to decision-making for BTR programmatic efforts
- Co-leads and implements two to three projects a year aligned with the BTR strategic plan
- Co-designs, builds, and maintains a systems-wide programmatic approach in several program areas, including, but not limited to, operations, enrollment, residency experience, compliance, data, etc
- Each CTE is responsible for the success of up to 10 residents
- Engages in entry and check-in meetings with residents and the director throughout the year
- Facilitates support/success plans for residents with the director as needed
- Responsible for the retention of residents
- Plans and facilitates two evaluation cycles of residents (formative and summative)
- Participates in monthly sacred meetings, Collaborating Teacher (CT) PDs, and Instructor Meetings to ensure alignment of feedback for residents
- Participates in weekly coaching interactions with residents using the BTR systems-wide coaching approach
- Builds relationships with CTs and residents in service of student learning and resident success
- Builds capacity (content and pedagogical practices) of CTs and residents in service of student learning and resident success
- Participates in some BTR Events and Flex Times
- Shares facilitation of BTR coach meetings/ CT PD/Unit Planning Week, etc
- Aligns content methods to the BTR systems-wide coaching approach
- Aligns grading practices to agreed-upon equitable grading practices
- Implements recommendations from the Curriculum Review Team regarding alignment and coherence in courses
- CTEs are also responsible for holding the content knowledge of their subject in the BTR program
- Possesses strong content knowledge and identity within their field
- Knows their content (secondary science) and the range of expertise needed to teach the content well
- Knows pedagogical content knowledge
- Collaborates with the elementary content team to create coherence and alignment within the program
- Keeps up with current research and best practices in their content (secondary science) and pedagogy
Experience and Skills
Qualifications

- Demonstrated proficiency as a teacher and instructional coach
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment and diagnosis.
- Deep understanding of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
- Experience in designing and leading professional development
- Enthusiastic to reflect, grow, and help others to do the same
- Experience supporting the growth of other adults, including supporting or coaching novice and veteran teachers
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Strong and tested ability to participate effectively on teams
- Proven ability to prioritize, balance, and complete complex projects in the face of competing deadlines
