Description
Answer code related questions. Performs field inspection work as delegated to insure residential and commercial construction are in compliance with applicable codes and ordinances of the Town. Reviews applications and plans related to building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, fire sprinkler, concrete, and excavation permits. Enforces the Town's zoning ordinance regulations and performs code enforcement activities. Prepare reports and maintains inspection records within the Town's permit software. Process applications for contractor registrations and license renewals within the Town's contractor registration software. May perform plans checking including review of specifications for code compliance.

Typical Qualifications
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Able to interpret codes and judge compliance with set standards. Thorough knowledge of the International Codes and National Electrical Code, general construction codes, working knowledge of electrical, carpentry, cement, mechanical, or plumbing work, and skill in applying knowledge of International Codes, zoning and land use regulations. Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors, developers, architects, engineers, property owners, and the general public. Ability to read and understand complicated plans and blueprints.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment. Knowledge and skills necessary to operate computer and programs used in departmental operations.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent;
Texas Plumbing Inspector's License, or acquisition within two years; Minimum of three (3) years' experience of residential and/or commercial construction inspections or work; an equivalent combination of education & experience; preference will be given to individuals with International Code Council certifications and individuals with governmental inspections experience; A Valid Texas Driver's License; and Texas Code Enforcement License, or acquisition within one year.

- Reviews and evaluates proposed building plans, specifications, and blueprints to insure that proposed construction complies with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, environmental, flood hazard, design, energy, barrier free requirements, landscape, clearing, grading, filling and related codes.
- Inspects buildings, structures, and exterior improvements for which a permit is required to determine if structure and/or property meets building codes, zoning regulations, and other pertinent Town ordinances. These codes include the electrical, plumbing, mechanical and building regulations. Properly record inspections and action taken in Town permit software.
- Provides information and gives advice regarding building and zoning requirements to property owners and contractors.
- Assists the Permit Technician in processing permit applications and plans, registration of contractors, and balancing cash drawer at permit counter.
- Monitors the town to detect construction being performed without a permit. Assists in code enforcement activities.
- Enforces the Customer Service Certification Inspection and the Cross Connection Control Programs as required by the TCEQ.
- Requires corrections to be made when deficiencies are discovered and assists builders and owners in determining how corrections are to be made to insure conformance to code. Check substandard buildings to determine action needed.
- Assist the Permit Technician and Department to (i) prepare monthly reports, (ii) balance funds received daily, (iii) assist in processing applications to the Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment, (iv) maintain complete and accurate records of approved plans.
