What You Will Do
We are currently seeking a Deputy Group Leader (DGL) for LANSCE-FO Building Operations and Maintenance (LFO-BOM). This is an Operations Manager 3 position in the LANSCE Facility Operations (LANSCE-FO) organization reporting to the LFO-BOM Group Leader (GL). The DGL will partner with the GL in providing leadership, technical direction, and oversight of facility operations as it relates to FOD responsibilities, and directs daily operations, provides budgetary oversight, and coordinates facility activities. The Operations Manager will ensure the overall safety and security of operations within their assigned facilities, and will ensure deployed functions (e.g., ESH&Q, Engineering, Maintenance) are accountable for their performance in support of operations in their respective areas of responsibility. The Operations Manager will strive to provide extraordinary customer service to facility tenants, programmatic operations, and other customers within assigned facilities. The position will partner in providing strategic direction and management oversight for building managers, operations support specialists, and operators in the organization.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide management oversight for the group responsible for operating facility equipment in support of 24/7 LANSCE accelerator and experimental area operations.
- Demonstrate the ability to provide oversite necessary to assure facility compliance with safety and security policies, environmental requirements, and other applicable DOE/governmental orders.
- Implement Conduct of Operations and support Conduct of Maintenance and Engineering processes as they pertain to facility work.
- Serve as a point of contact for facility related issues, including coordination of maintenance, programmatic activities, and communication with facility tenants.
- Provide support in maintaining the facility/system operating condition, including assisting with configuration management and control.
- Serve as an expert resource in the operation and monitoring of facility systems.
- Supports, coordinates, and ensures compliance with Operations process for planning, activity review, and progress tracking.
- Participate in the LANSCE-FO Duty Officer program and serve on rotation as a Duty Officer. Ability to respond to abnormal and emergency events during off-shift hours.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates operational, and/or facility systems, processes, and practices to promote compliance with all Laboratory policies and procedures.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of facility systems or similar system operations.
- Demonstrated ability to provide operations supervisory oversight, including technical direction, program execution, and sound business judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a member of a management team; to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel; and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conicts.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
- Thorough knowledge of Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance, and Conduct of Engineering programs.
- Experience and demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating solutions, and determining action to be performed.
- Demonstrated understanding and implementation of work planning and control including hazard identification, hazards analysis, and control implementation applying the hierarchy of controls for a wide range of complex, and hazardous activities.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience with material and environmental control including waste management.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills to include presentations and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize Excel and computerized maintenance management/work control software to create, track, update, analyze, and develop reports for work within assigned facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to gain cooperation of others and conduct presentations of technical and/or function-specific information concerning specific projects or schedules.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree (preferably Engineering, or related technical discipline) and 5 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of and successful demonstrated experience in developing and fostering successful cross-organization teams to solve complex problems.
- Currently maintains or has the ability to obtain a certification from IFMA.
- Direct experience with Chiller/Cooling Tower equipment operations, HVAC operations, Building Automation Systems, Fire Protection systems, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with LANL Maintenance and Conduct of Operations.
- Demonstrated experience in abnormal event response and incident/occurrence investigation to include root cause analysis, and lessons learned.
- Demonstrated experience leading process improvement initiatives with evidence of successful outcomes.
- Expert-level understanding of hazardous-energy control, including LOTO application practices and configuration control.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, supervise, and oversee human resources administration for assigned employees, including subordinate supervisors and staff.
- Active Q-Clearance.
