Job Description

Applies IT project management knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to IT project activities. Manages critical project components, including project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, communications, and risk through all phases of the systems project implementation life cycle. Oversees small supply chain systems projects or phases of a larger project. Coordinates activities of project team, identifying appropriate project resource needs, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project. Utilizes familiarity of the project's scope and objectives, as well as team member functions and roles, to effectively coordinate activities of the team. Communicates with Project Manager or above regarding status of specific projects.

Organizational Interfaces:

- Assesses the fit of basic to moderate IT solutions and identifies gaps early for subsequent evaluation in the pursuit/solution development process.

- Participates in new product evaluations to define requirements and assess business fit for assigned sector or division.

- Represents IT competency and capability in the early stages of lead and proposal development for relevant to meaningful business opportunities.

- Develops the IT section of response to customers' RFP/RFI/RFQ's for relevant to meaningful business opportunities.

- Establishes productive business relationships with certain levels of customers and business partners.

Project Planning & Administration:

- Oversees small projects or phases of a larger project.

- Conceptualizes solutions across multiple applications and/or platforms.

- Assists in the definition of engagements to guide the most appropriate IT solution to the end user in concert with DHL and IT strategic direction.

- Creates a portion of the overall project work plan.

- Uses project administration processes including project initiation, labor tracking, status reporting and basic project capital/expense tracking.

- Coordinates and manages vendors in the context of planning for overall project delivery. Individually coordinates one IT group - either in-house, customer, or third-party.

Project Delivery:

- Completes and/or coordinates the completion of one to many components to meet appropriate economic standards, ensure customer satisfaction, timely completion, and project profitability.

- Ensures overall project success.

- Coordinates, communicates and develops detailed requirements in conjunction with the Business Systems Analysis and Business Systems Development group(s).

- Assesses project risks and develops timely, proactive plans to mitigate risk factors.

- Applies system development methodologies for custom and package applications projects.

Personnel:

- Provides direction and decision support to project staff.

- Leverages the competencies of project associates to enhance project quality and accelerate results.

- Recognizes staff diversity, performance and/or personality conflicts.

- Assists others in the completion of assignments through knowledge sharing.

- May provide input into performance reviews of project team participants.

General:

- Proposes or refines project standards, policies, procedures and methodologies for DHL IT.

- Understands and promotes DHL's project lifecycle, concepts, principles and business processes.

- Applies basic understanding / knowledge of IT infrastructure components - e.g., networks, platforms and operating systems.

- Requires moderate day-to-day supervision from IT management.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree in a relevant business or technical subject, required
  • 5-7 years experience in an IT environment, required
  • Professional project or program management experience of system design, development or integration projects (packaged and custom solutions), required
  • Experience in planning major projects, including development of project proposals, business cases, project schedules, financial justification, etc., required
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant business or technical subject, preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, preferred
