The Business Development Director (BDD) is responsible for increasing gross profit and market share while developing ongoing relationships with new and existing customers. Responsible for gaining new clients and developing existing client business in line with iDC Logistics's growth strategy and the country's sales budget and targets. Responsible for prospecting new customers and closing new business within the medium-large size segment.
Job Responsibilities
- Identify new business opportunities by engaging prospective clients in the assigned market, as well as cross-selling new services to existing clients.
- Track market trends and competitive rate actions, communicating relevant insights to product and management teams.
- Develop proactive solutions by creating and maintaining a client lifecycle program for top customers, ensuring a solid understanding of each account's contacts, commodities/trade lanes, contracts, and service requirements.
- Assist and facilitate the preparation of RFQs and bids.
- Assess the company's competitive strengths and weaknesses, recommending continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide weekly and monthly performance metrics to the business development team.
- Collaborate closely with pricing and operations teams to develop pricing models for potential customers.
- Understand pricing and cost components associated with proposed solutions.
- Deliver sales presentations, develop deliverables, coordinate implementation, and create or update marketing materials as needed.
- Enter new customer data and other sales-related information into Salesforce, maintaining records in line with company policy.
- Meet specific volume and revenue targets for each product in the iDC Logistics portfolio, as set by the SVP of Business Development.
- Manage time and territory to achieve a minimum of 10 sales calls per week, ensuring maximum iDC exposure in the market.
- Respond promptly and effectively to all sales leads and key correspondence within specified timelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Leadership

- Create and frequently review developmental action plans that promote individual growth and strengthen succession planning efforts.
- Conduct performance evaluations, recommending promotions, wage increases, and other performance-related actions, including verbal/written counseling, disciplinary measures, and termination if necessary.
- Demonstrate strong leadership with a collaborative, decisive, and engaging style, building trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Seek out and consider others' ideas and suggestions, providing clear and concise feedback to direct reports, peers, and senior leaders.
- Drive change and implement new ideas to support business operations.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in Sales/Business Development.
- Experience in Global Forwarding operations and market intelligence.
- Energetic and positive attitude.
- Self-confident and willing to take responsibility.
- Strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of all facets of Import and Export operations (Air, Ocean, and Customs Brokerage).
- Ability to bring existing sales relationships and opportunities to the company.
- Prior P&L management experience.
- Established relationships within the industry.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop, manage, lead, and communicate effectively with staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word (intermediate to advanced level).
Skills and Competencies
- Familiarity with international and domestic regulations and programs such as TSA, C-TPAT, FMCSA, FMC, and IATA.
- Exceptional verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
- Proven commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Capacity to relate to employees at all levels and build successful relationships.
- Effective leadership communication skills.
- Advanced PC skills, particularly in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email management systems.
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel domestically up to 30-50%.
