Position Purpose: The Business Development Manager is outwardly focused on identifying, initiating and developing opportunities for the association. The position has primary responsibility for cultivating Business-to-Business (B2B) relationships with hospitals, health systems and other large organizations, communicating product and market information with the intent of driving sales and expanding AACN's influence on the healthcare ecosystem. This position serves as a liaison to key business partners.
This position provides leadership to and operational oversight of staff in collaborating with internal partners in the efficient creation and operationalizing of innovative, and impactful B2B programs and services as determined by the organization's strategic direction. The Business Development Manager is responsible for assigning and overseeing the work of the Business Development team, as well as matrixed project management and business strategy staff, to facilitate collaboration and strategic decision-making with internal business units. The Business Development team actively engages stakeholders to understand the current industry environment and issues that matter most to healthcare leaders, our nurse community and their patients.

Main Accountabilities:
- Planning: Ensures that effective systems and support are in place for the comprehensive development and exploration of potential business opportunities that further AACN's strategic direction and position and creates catalytic opportunities.
- Identifies, cultivates and manages opportunities for AACN programs and products.
- Evaluates feasibility and recommends appropriate partnerships and alliances.
- Updates and manages B2B strategy and its implementation, working with product and partner teams to ensure alignment with other AACN initiatives.
- Manages ongoing internal B2B relationships with other AACN functions-aligns with all product and support departments.
- Engages in all facets of the market assessment and business planning process, including identifying emerging industry trends and participating in market research
- Oversees the development of business plans and briefs, including the development of financial proformas, ROI, and ROMI estimates.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Leads collaboratively to ensure the organization's conceptualization, development, implementation and evaluation of major market trends and customer research using current best practices.
- Provides on-going evaluation, insights and information to the stakeholders of institutional products and services.
- Makes recommendations on contractual opportunities.
- Measures and monitors results of outreach and promotional activities.
- Systems Thinking and Operations: Ensures effective operational leadership by helping to clarify priorities.
- Brings a holistic view to business development and B2B outreach initiatives, considering the impact of each initiative on the greater body of AACN work and on the broader outreach and development strategy.
- Evaluates and adjusts plans and priorities as needed.
- Budgets, assigns, schedules and monitors human, financial and other resources so departmental plans are carried out and outcomes achieved successfully.
- Team Development & Leadership:
- Provide authentic leadership for the development of direct reports, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Offer coaching and guidance to team members, promoting collaboration, accountability, and the achievement of strategic goals.
- Model and reinforce organizational values, ensuring a positive and high-performance team environment.
- Oversee the Business Development team cost center and make decisions about budget items.
Skills Required:

- Solid understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, especially of the hospital and health system audience

- Proficiency in HubSpot, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, G-Suite, and Smartsheet.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. MBA or other related post-graduate degree preferred.
- BSN or Master's in Nursing, with RN licensure desired.
- Demonstrated expertise in business development planning, identifying new opportunities, forming partnerships, and adding value to a company.
- Experience leading matrixed teams for business planning, market analysis, research and/or business development.
- 7 years experience in managing teams for business development, sales or related fields in a non-profit or healthcare environment.
- Experience within hospitals/healthcare systems as an executive or consultant is strongly preferred. Extensive knowledge of the business of healthcare in the US is required.
