Position Summary:

The Business Development Manager is responsible for maintaining existing and generating new business opportunities. They assist in establishing the Strategic Business Plan and Vision, annual operating plans, staffing and succession planning. They work to build market positions by locating, developing, negotiating and closing business relationships. Provides key input to Business Units regarding resources needed to meet plans, including HR, capital equipment, manufacturing platform and technical capabilities.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree required with 10 years or experience equivalent

Advanced Degree (MS) with 5 years or experience equivalent preferred

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Account Manager/Product Manager position or equivalent

Essential Duties: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
  • Drives the Business Unit's Sales Growth with knowledge of market trends, economic trends, key customers, and major competitors that affect the growth of the business; builds business by identifying and selling to prospect customers; builds relationships with new and existing customers accounts; establishes, communicates, and achieves agreement from all constituents on the Vision of the Business; sets 3 to 5 year Strategic Plan which addresses: targeted growth markets, manufacturing footprint, technical requirements which drive R&D projects, market trends, and key customer and competitor behaviors; understands and maintains metrics that affect Profit and Loss.
  • Maintains Documentation by creating detailed reports; maintaining records of key customers, growth market, external analysis, market trends, and operating plans.
  • Improves Job Knowledge by attending training and keeping relevant technical, industry and business knowledge and skills current
  • Demonstrates Interpersonal skills through attention to detail; effective time management; effectively communicates with customers and suppliers, formally and informally in meetings and presentations to address opportunities and solve problems; supporting and managing interaction with key customers
  • Demonstrates Leadership by planning and coordinating with departments for timely completion of sales activities; effectively communicate with executive management and employees; delegating workload and responsibilities

Additional Position Responsibilities
  • Performs with (and contributes to) a highly motivated sales group with a strong team atmosphere;
  • Demonstrates basic technical knowledge of plastics processes, color feed systems, extrusion and/or injection molding processes;
  • Effectively provides problem-solving methods as they relate to the effective use of master batch, compounds, and additive materials;
  • Demonstrates ability to describe color using industry accepted methods, including spectrophotometric outputs;
  • Demonstrates excellent negotiating skills to persuade and effectively achieve win-win results;
  • Demonstrates high initiative and tenacity to achieve aggressive goals, manage customer resistance, and pursue opportunities over extended periods of time;
  • Demonstrates ability to set and meet personal and team monthly, quarterly, and annual goals and deadlines;
  • Demonstrates leadership by effectively communicating with executive management and sales group and customers; properly delegating workload and responsibilities, and leading, prioritizing, and overseeing multiple activities of resources to maximize productivity and effectiveness; and
  • Demonstrates effective prospecting, negotiating, and closing skills.
  • Improves job knowledge by attending training and keeping relevant knowledge and skills current;
  • Contributes to organization success by meeting team and company goals; and
  • Follows all quality system and safety protocols, completing safety training; maintaining a safe driving record; and contributing to safety goals; keeping work areas clean and organized, and assisting in implementation of ideas for continuous improvement.
