Description:

Signal Energy's Manager of Business Development is accountable for supporting business development activities, including: identifying target markets and customers, cultivating customer relationships and driving Preferred Selection, and assisting business unit leaders with strategies to secure and execute team objectives and project plans. The Manager will drive profitability and value by judiciously applying company resources towards markets, Customers and projects that best align with Signal Energy strengths, capacity and risk profile.

Reports to: Director, Business Development

Works closely with: Customers, Engineering, Estimating and Planning, Procurement, Operations, Finance, Legal, Leadership and key project stakeholders

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Pre-Bid Phase
  • Prepare strategies for targeted Customer identification that align with business unit goals and organizational objectives.
  • Evaluate potential business opportunities through review of market factors and Customer/project alignment.
  • Develop bid-to-win strategies and organize business unit resources accordingly.
  • Attend industry events and represent Signal Energy to the industry in a professional capacity
  • Keep current with market developments and industry offerings to elevate Signal Energy competiveness
  • Participate in department, business unit, and company initiatives
  • Bid Phase
  • Actively communicate with Customers to understand needs and project-success criteria
  • Review RFP documents to determine scope, schedule, design criteria and proposal submittals
  • Assign RFP deliverable responsibilities and deadlines
  • Review contract documents with key stakeholders to identify risks and areas needing clarification/negotiation
  • Manage conceptual design and drive winning solutions
  • Coordinate with Estimating and Project Controls to develop cost estimates and schedules
  • Ensure all RFP requirements are covered in proposals and clarified and qualified accordingly
  • Post-Award Phase
  • Coordinate EPC contracting efforts with Customers and key project stakeholders
  • Track and ensure proposal risk profiles and budgets are maintained throughout contract negotiations
  • Drive completion of Customer contract deliverables and ensure each is timely met
  • Assign and manage completion of LNTP work as needed in accordance with terms of the agreement
  • Lead contract approval process with key stakeholders and company leadership
  • Ensure project continuity to Operations by supporting turnover process and promoting continual planning, conveying Customer goals, commercial terms, and technical decisions
  • Support Business Development leaders with contract negotiation and coordination as needed
  • Construction Phase
  • Assist Operations by providing context to EPC contract terms, design decisions, vendor/subcontractor selections, and attending project kick-offs and monthly project reviews
  • Participate in weekly project meetings and maintain regular communication with project management to identify lessons learned to incorporate into future proposals and contracts
  • Support Accounting with Customer payment collection as needed
  • Maintain regular contact with Customers to ensure expectations are being met

Attributes and Competencies
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and track multiple, concurrent, high-impact activities
  • Solid communication skills with the capability to cultivate strong relationships and lead project teams internally and externally
  • Experience with EPC contract terms, including legal concepts, commercial and technical terms
  • Basic understanding of scheduling and risk management principles
  • Understanding of project budgets and cash flow analyses
  • Experience using a CRM platform as a tool to manage pipeline and deal flow
  • Creative problem solver

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, architecture, construction management or related area
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in the solar, renewables, or power generation market preferred
