Wethersfield High School has an opening for a Business Teacher. The candidate will be responsible for the creation and implementation of engaging lessons aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). We are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with superior collaboration skills to fill this opening.

Start Date: August 18, 2025 (start of 2025-2026 school year)
Compensation: $56,162 - $111,280 (full-time annual)

Summary of Position: We are seeking a passionate and innovative Business Teacher dedicated to creating a highly engaging learning environment that aligns with our Vision of the Graduate skills-Communicator, Problem-Solver, and Collaborator-equipping students for success in an ever-evolving world.
The Business Teacher will promote the independence of each student as a learner, effectively assess student needs and progress, and plan instruction to achieve meaningful learning objectives, including those tailored for exceptional learners. The ideal candidate will accomplish these goals through effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues and by utilizing engaging, inquiry-based techniques and materials in a supportive and dynamic classroom environment.
Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated ability to create a collaborative learning culture that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and deep understanding of the content and concepts of the business world.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines
  • Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
  • Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge of Business
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences
  • Assess student learning on continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed
  • Keep parents up-to-date of student progress through use of online platforms (ParentSquare), report cards, and/or individual conferences
  • Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress and use assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices
  • Design clear and specific learning assessments
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner
  • Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials, equipment and other education materials
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships through effective collaboration
  • Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement
  • Demonstrate knowledge of teaching methods, materials and educational practices for secondary school teaching of Business
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Qualifications:
  • Current Connecticut Teacher Certification (#010; Business)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or in Business
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form;
  • Ability to meet deadlines with time constraints;
  • Ability to handle and treat information confidentially;
  • Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to integrate instructional technology resources into district curriculum;
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to lead teachers, parents, and members of the school community;
  • Knowledge of best practice in instruction and assessment;
  • Ability to author routine reports, analysis, and correspondence;
  • Ability to speak effectively and succinctly before administrators, staff, parents, and students;
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
