Description:

The Capital Engineering Manager job is responsible for overseeing and managing the planning, design, and execution of capital projects aimed at improving manufacturing processes, infrastructure, and operational efficiency. This role ensures that capital investments are executed within budget and on schedule, while adhering to safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management:
    • Lead the planning, development, and execution of capital projects (e.g., facility upgrades, equipment installations, and process improvements).
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, production, and maintenance, to identify and prioritize project requirements.
    • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resources, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of all capital projects.
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Budget and Cost Control:
    • Develop and manage capital expenditure (CAPEX) budgets, ensuring accurate forecasting and tracking of spending.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Approve capital expenditure requests and conduct financial analysis of project proposals.
  • Process Optimization:
    • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, reduce downtime, and increase overall plant efficiency through capital investments.
    • Introduce new technologies and automated systems to improve productivity and reduce operational costs.
    • Work with production and maintenance teams to troubleshoot operational challenges and implement corrective actions.
  • Engineering and Design Oversight:
    • Ensure the proper design and installation of new equipment and infrastructure, including layout, specifications, and commissioning.
    • Oversee the selection and procurement of capital equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
    • Coordinate with external engineering firms, contractors, and vendors to execute capital projects.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure all capital projects comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry codes.
    • Promote a culture of safety within the team and across the plant during project execution.
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure proper risk mitigation strategies are in place for all capital projects.
  • Leadership and Team Development:
    • Lead a team of engineers, project managers, and technical staff, providing guidance and support.
    • Foster a collaborative work environment, encouraging innovation and continuous learning.
    • Evaluate team performance and provide feedback, mentoring, and training opportunities to enhance skills and capabilities.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for capital project updates with senior management, production, and other departments.
    • Prepare and present detailed reports on the status of capital projects, highlighting milestones, risks, and performance metrics.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Implement lean manufacturing principles and other process improvement methodologies to optimize capital projects and operations.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices to drive improvements in capital engineering.

  • Qualifications:
    • Education:
      • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
    • Experience:
      • At least 5-7 years of experience in capital engineering or project management within a manufacturing or industrial setting, with a preference for experience in the paper or packaging industry.
      • Proven track record of managing complex capital projects from concept to completion.
      • Strong knowledge of engineering design, cost estimation, budgeting, and procurement processes.
      • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and machinery used in the paper industry is a plus.
    • Skills:
      • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
      • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
      • Proficient in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and engineering design tools.
      • Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
      • Knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO).
