About the Role:
As Captain on the M/V Lake Express, your primary responsibility will be ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vessel in all respects. You will be responsible for navigating and maneuvering the vessel, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, and overseeing all aspects of the vessel's operation while on duty. Additionally, you will be responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the vessel's equipment and performing drills, crew training, and other tasks as directed. Your role is crucial in ensuring the safety of the crew, passengers, and vehicles, as well as the overall success of the vessel's operations. Work schedules involve a rotating schedule which may include late nights, early mornings, and weekend trips based on the needs of the Company. The vessel is a day boat operating on Lake Michigan between Milwaukee, WI and Muskegon, MI. All vessel crewmember shifts originate and conclude in Milwaukee, WI.
This is a year-round salaried position offering a well-rounded benefits package with the potential for annual performance bonus. Relocation assistance may be provided for the selected candidate. Paid on-the-job training is provided.

In this role, you will need to quickly gain an understanding of the entire operation of a high-speed ferry, including the vessel's maneuvering and handling characteristics, loading and unloading the vehicle deck, operating sophisticated navigation equipment, crew management, vessel machinery monitoring, and incident response. Strong leadership and accurate decision-making skills are necessary in emergency situations or when making critical operational decisions.

- Valid USCG MMC Master of Self-Propelled Vessels Less Than 100 GRT Upon Great Lakes and Inland Waters or greater
- Valid FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit or greater
- Valid USCG Medical Certificate
- Valid TWIC
- Ability to effectively communicate and work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- RADAR Observer (Unlimited) Endorsement (must obtain prior to sailing as Captain)
- ARPA Endorsement (must obtain prior to sailing as Captain)
- Advanced Fire-Fighting Certification (must obtain prior to sailing as Captain)
- ECDIS Endorsement
- Experience with the following:
- Operating waterjet-propelled craft.
- Operating fast and/or high-speed craft.
- Utilizing sophisticated electronic navigation equipment in all weather conditions.
- Operating in confined waters, heavy vessel traffic, etc.
- Working on vessels carrying passengers for hire.
- Operating on Great Lakes and/or Coastal Waters.
- Operating, troubleshooting, and maintained vessel machinery.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Ability to represent the company in a professional manner in all settings including but not limited to crew management, outside vendor/regulator interaction and customer experience.
Responsibilities:
- Navigate and maneuver the vessel, including plotting courses, using navigational aids, and maintaining accurate charts and records.
- Ensure compliance with all maritime regulations, including safety, security, and environmental regulations.
- Oversee the safe and efficient loading and unloading of passengers and vehicles.
- Inspect and troubleshoot vessel's equipment, systems, and machinery.
- Monitor weather conditions and make necessary adjustments to the vessel's operations to ensure the safety of the vessel, crew and passengers
- Serve as person-in-charge for any onboard emergency.
- Serve as point of contact any onboard incidents.
- Evaluate crew and vessel performance.
- Perform other duties as directed.
