Job Title: Echo Technologist
Job Specialty: Diagnostic Imaging - Echocardiography
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Mostly days (0700-1530) with rotation to hospital requiring call and weekends
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of 1 year
License: Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
Certifications: American Heart Association BLS required, ACLS preferred
Must-Have: Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology from a CAAHEP program or Health Science Program, Six (6) months of clinical training in cardiac ultrasound or comparable experience
Job Description:
- Perform daily clinical adult cardiac ultrasound diagnostic procedures (echocardiography), assessing basic and advanced cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology, and creating preliminary reports for interpretation by cardiologists.
- Perform routine two-dimensional echo, stress echo, pharmacological stress echo, transesophageal echo, and emergent echo procedures in accordance with standard practices.
- Learn and understand advanced echo techniques such as 3D and strain imaging.
- Utilize ultrasound enhancing agents and agitated saline when requested or clinically necessary.
- Provide echocardiography services as needed across various locations, working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent call coverage.
- Operate and maintain equipment necessary to perform all required procedures, including routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and reporting equipment malfunctions.
- Evaluate patient medical records to obtain history, reason for exam, and necessary information to perform studies.
- Prepare preliminary reports for review and interpretation by cardiologists, including comparison of previous studies.
- Participate in professional education, lab meetings, and quality improvement projects.
- Participate in reaccreditation processes and quality demands of accreditation commissions.
- Complete documentation required for interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of exams.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrate sound judgment, patience, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
- Exercise tact, discretion, sensitivity, and maintain confidentiality.
- Perform job functions successfully in busy and stressful environments.
- Learn current and new computer applications and office equipment.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
Schedule and Physical Requirements:
- Role requires regular and sustained attendance and may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour week, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
- On-call work may be required.
- Physical activities include lifting occasionally, sitting continuously, standing and walking occasionally, and occasional climbing, twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, or pulling.
- Vision acuity, fine-finger movements, and cognitive skills are required continuously.
- Rare exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, medications, and infectious diseases.
