Job Title: Cardiac Sonographer II

Job Specialty: Echocardiology

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: 8-hour days

Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Experience: Minimum of 1 year as an Echo Sonographer

License: Registration as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer

Certifications: BLS - American Heart

Must-Have:
- Professional knowledge of echocardiology techniques
- Ability to independently perform diagnostic echocardiogram procedures
- Expertise in 2D/3D cardiac imaging, transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echo
- RDCS or CCI registry
- Experience with contrast
- EPIC EMR experience
- Pediatric echo experience preferred but not required

Job Description:

- Review patients' charts and results of previous studies to select appropriate equipment for the procedure.
- Explain test/procedures to patients to ensure their cooperation and ease apprehensions while gathering and recording pertinent personal and medical information.
- Move the transducer manually over specific areas of the body, observe the sound wave display screen for anomalies, and determine if the images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Complete the sonographer report after each exam and maintain competency for contrast agent use as per department policy.
- Capture images in CPACS, review, and address any QA issues. Utilize the EPIC workflow for ordering, scheduling, documenting, and charging department procedures.
- Discuss test results with physicians or other departmental personnel as needed and repeat processes if necessary.
- Maintain equipment in clean, proper working order, perform minor adjustments, and notify leadership of serious malfunctions.
- Perform related clerical duties such as answering phones, relaying messages, scheduling appointments, maintaining stock of linen and supplies, and distributing test results.
- Keep abreast of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate literature and attending seminars or conferences. Attend mandatory department and work-related educational programs.
- Support and participate in continuous quality improvement efforts to enhance patient outcomes, satisfaction, and optimize the utilization of human, capital, and physical resources.
- Assist in the clinical training of new team members and students.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with medical personnel, outside agencies, and contract facilities that utilize mobile echo services.

Physical & Mental Requirements and Working Conditions:

- Ability to stoop, bend, reach, grab, and communicate effectively, with manual dexterity and color vision.
- Proficiency in using a keyboard and video display terminal for data entry and information retrieval.
- Ability to proofread and check documents for accuracy daily.
- Capability to stand for extended periods, push portable ultrasound units, stretchers, and wheelchairs as needed.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds and carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds daily.
- Work in patient care areas with potential exposure to infectious diseases, with safety procedures and equipment in place to minimize risk.
