Key Functions & Responsibilities of the Casting Engineer
- Assess the feasibility of new cast product designs for manufacturing and suggest appropriate equipment and tooling.
- Offer Design for Manufacturability (DFM) advice to aid product design teams.
- Organize, conduct, and report on metal casting process simulation tasks.
- Conduct technical reviews of casting designs for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and international teams on casting development, launch, and production enhancements.
- Travel occasionally (10-15%) to support manufacturing sites and participate in industry events.
- Significant international travel may be necessary for training in the first year, depending on experience.
- 8-10 years of professional experience.
- At least 3 years of continuous experience as a casting process or casting process simulation engineer.
- Preferably experienced in a high-volume production foundry of light alloy castings.
- Familiarity with other manufacturing processes related to metal casting is advantageous.
- Educational background in engineering or materials science (bachelor's degree or higher preferred).
- Experience using casting process simulation software (MAGMAsoft preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) and/or Low-Pressure Die Casting (LPDC).
- Proficient understanding of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) methods and related areas.
- Capable of using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software for reviewing, translating, and making minor modifications.
- Ability to independently resolve issues (formal training in problem-solving methods such as 6-sigma is beneficial).
- Familiarity with automotive components, systems, and their design and functions.
- Motivated self-starter able to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines efficiently.
- Collaborative team player, both in-person and remotely.
- Proficient in using computers and various applications (scripting and coding skills are a plus).
- Must be fluent in English, including complex technical texts.
- Proficiency in German and Spanish is advantageous.
