LOCATION IN ORGANIZATION:

The Cath Lab Manager position oversees LAB/Labs located within an MCI- owned and operated Cath Lab/OBL suite. MCI Ambulatory Surgery Center and Office Lab Managers will reports directly to the Director or Administrator in their region for all matters, including job duties, performance evaluations, approval of leave, and other assignments as deemed necessary by the Director of Hospital Operations, Chief Operating Officer, or Chief Executive Officer for the benefit of MCI.

GENERAL NATURE OF DUTIES:

This person is responsible for the operation and management of the Cath labs in the Ambulatory Surgery Center and/or Office Based Lab under the direct supervision of the Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Center or Administrator. Responsibilities include assistance in the supervision of all Cardiovascular Lab personnel and physicians, control of inventory including purchase and utilization of equipment and supplies, development and administration of departmental and organizational policies. This person must take initiative in seeking, recognizing and identifying areas where improvement is possible and / or necessary and take positive action in these areas.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

A. Quality

1. Contributes in the development of goals and objectives congruent with the strategic plan of the MCI ambulatory surgery center.

2. Contributes in the establishment of policies and procedures for Cath lab operation.

3. Assures efficient and effective utilization of resources. Champions the training of the Cath lab teams

4. Supports department activities such including purchasing and ordering supplies, staffing, and scheduling procedures.

5. Assures all regulatory agency requirements are met and maintained.

6. Maintains a comprehensive quality assurance program and reports periodically to appropriate committees or staff

7. Maintains a complete and up to date file of catalogs and checklists for all essential equipment and supplies.

8. Supervises and assists supply technician in ordering, processing and storage of all cath supplies, also maintains an orderly file of purchase orders and a systematic follow-up of all order.

9. Coordinates with technologist the performance of weekly and/or daily processing quality control procedures and maintain records on result.

10. Routinely reviews cine angiograms as soon after processing as possible to insure quick detection of processing of technical problems.

11. Maintains an orderly and complete record of all maintenance.

12. Maintains weekly and monthly statistical summaries.

13. Monitors radiation safety reports and inures that all personnel including physicians are operating within the limits set by the federal government.

14. Provides back up capabilities in an event that there is a technologist shortage or absence, as well as during unusually busy periods.

B. Finances

1. Contributes in the planning for departmental operating budgets operates within allocated funds.

2. Effectively staffs departments within the approved budget, productivity guidelines and staffing profile.

3. Actively participates in the management of capital expenditures to provide appropriate facility and equipment for level of services provided.

C. Influence on Growth in Market Place

Is a key contributor to the MCI ambulatory surgery center and implementation of long and short-term goals for the assigned department in accordance with MCI 's mission statement. Seeks opportunities to reduce costs and improve revenue without compromising the quality of patient care.

D. Recruitment and Retention of Superior Staff

1. Is a key contributor in the, interview process, training discipline, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of staff.

2. Executes in the highest level in the development of all reporting employees.

3. Assures proper orientation training of all department staff through a comprehensive cardiovascular training program.

E. Human Resource Management

1. Assistance in the supervision and direction of all activities of Cardiovascular Lab personnel as needed.

2. Applies Human Resources policies/procedures to department operations.

3. Maintains and promotes department policies/procedures and work rules including safety, fire and security.

4. Follows policy and procedure in the coaching, counseling, and disciplining of employees and maintains appropriate employee files.

5. Supervises the preparation of the bi-weekly timecards and see that they are submitted on time.

6. Promotes a high level of customer service.

F. Standards of Practice

Responsible for maintaining competency in all above categories for ages of patients served on assigned unit.

1. Communicates pertinent information to the Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Center, Director of Nursing, or Administrative VP of CV Services in a timely manner. Serious matters are reported immediately to the proper administrative levels.

MCI/CIS STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:

1. Keeps work area neat and organized. Reports safety issues to administrative personnel immediately.

7. Exhibits whenever possible a harmonious relationship with other MCI/CIS employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position. While perfect harmonious relationships with all employees is sometimes not achievable, not more than an occasional complaint should be received by the team leader about the incumbent of this position.

8. The employee shall work and relate cooperatively with all other employees (internal customers) to assure optimum care for the patients of MCI/CIS and to achieve standards of care set forth by the MCI/CIS medical staff.

9. Adheres to the MCI/CIS Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties. Uses best efforts to maintain compliance by following the MCI/CIS Corporate Compliance Plan, attending MCI/CIS compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues.

10. Performs accurate and complete documentation in the patient's medical record, when applicable.

11. Work with the electronic medical record (EMR) staff to maintain quality and work towards future EMR development.

12. Maintains patient confidentiality according to the HIPAA standards of privacy and security.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

1. A.S or B.S in Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Technology or

2. Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

3. Registered Radiologic Technologist and/or Cardiovascular Technologist, or Registered Nurse.

4. Graduate of an accredited nursing school and current licensure with the IL State Board of Nursing.

5. Must have at least 5 years' experience in cardiac catheterization with at least two years in a supervisory role preferred.

6. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

7. Good communication skills
