Job Summary

The Cement Engineer Manager oversees the operations of the Cement Engineering Department and the Cement Laboratory; contributes to organizational efficiency by ensuring accurate data is distributed to other stakeholders, maintains strong relationships with new or existing customers, and acts as the supervisory direct report for assigned personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor cement blend performance
  • Troubleshoot cement blend issues by analyzing product failure data and laboratory test results
  • Design and direct cement blend processing procedure testing
  • Design raw material and cement blend quality assurance tests
  • Evaluate technical specifications and costs relating to product or process design objectives
  • Design appropriate methods for joining materials used in cement blending processes
  • Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on customer objectives
  • Plan and implement laboratory operations to develop procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards
  • Collaborate with Cement Laboratory and leadership to plan and evaluate new projects when necessary
  • Assign blends for production to the Cement Laboratory team daily
  • Communicate upcoming job information and necessary cement blend updates regularly to Cement Coordinators and customers
  • Maintain contact with vendors for pricing information
  • Work closely with the Cement Sales team to generate new Requests for Quotes (RFQs)
  • Conduct annual job performance reviews, praise areas of achievement, and develop a plan to address areas that need improvement
  • Act as supervisory direct report for assigned personnel (i.e., performance management, corrective action, training, defining daily priorities, etc.)
  • Manage time and attendance for assigned personnel, including timecard approval or paid time off
  • Oversee the hiring of personnel (i.e., collaborate with Human Resources recruiters, perform interviews, select qualified talent, etc.)
  • Maintain compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies by attending all required HSE training sessions, safety meetings, and always utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of cement engineering experience, preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, required (Chemical or Petroleum Engineering, preferred)
  • Experience in a leadership role, preferred
  • Must exhibit strong leadership qualities and the ability to effectively manage a team of engineers both in person and remotely
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively interact with customers, vendors, and personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Highly collaborative, able to successfully work with a team to accomplish a common goal
  • Excellent time management skills: able to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Flexible, can manage unexpected deadlines or work requirements
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; able to gather, interpret, and utilize relevant data
  • Highly self-motivated and proactive
  • Must be flexible and able to work remotely when necessary
  • Must be willing to answer calls after hours and on the weekends as necessary
  • Proficient working in Microsoft Office 365 applications and can quickly learn other work-related systems
