Description:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and strategic Certification Engineering Manager to lead our certification team in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and certification requirements, particularly in the aerospace industry. CoreAVI, A Lynx Software Technologies Company, is a highly successful safety critical solution provider and has led the definition of enabling standards such as the OpenGL SC 2.0 specifications. We are a key participant within the Khronos Group defining new safety critical graphics and compute standards, as well as members of the VITA hardware standards group.

This role will oversee the certification process, guide engineers in adhering to DO-178 and DO-254 standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive successful project outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development processes, regulatory compliance, and leadership, with a proven ability to manage complex certification efforts efficiently.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Management: Lead and support a team of DO-178 and DO-254 Certification Leads, ensuring resource allocation, task distribution, and development through mentoring.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and implement certification strategy, processes, and standards to align with business and regulatory goals, ensuring projects meet certification requirements.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and resolve certification-related issues promptly.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Track team performance, provide feedback, and report on certification progress, risks, and resource needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with engineering, QA, project management, and other teams, ensuring seamless integration of certification processes and clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Customer & Partner Interaction: Collaborate with customers and partners to ensure certification meets their requirements, including contract review and setting achievable goals.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Build relationships with regulatory bodies (e.g., FAA, EASA) and lead audit preparations to maintain audit-readiness.
  • Project Estimation & Metrics Collection: Estimate effort and resources for certification activities, track KPIs, and collect data to improve efficiency, productivity, and compliance.
  • Forecasting & Cost Analysis: Develop workload forecasts and evaluate the cost impact of certification activities, adjusting project planning and resource allocation.
  • Metrics Reporting & Benchmarking: Track and report key certification metrics, compare with industry standards, and implement improvements.
  • Organizational Representation: Represent the organization at industry forums and share certification expertise internally and externally.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in aerospace certification, with a strong background in DO-178C or DO-254.
  • Proven leadership experience, managing certification efforts within software development teams.
  • Expertise in certification processes, including preparing and reviewing certification artifacts, supporting compliance activities, and leading certification strategies.
  • Strong understanding of safety assessments, system engineering practices, and quality assurance standards.
  • Experience leading external audits, ensuring projects meet regulatory and certification requirements.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to convey complex certification concepts to internal teams and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Ability to write, review, and approve complex technical documentation with clarity and precision.
  • Fluent in American English (spoken and written).

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Knowledge of Configuration Management and Change Control processes.
  • Microsoft Project or similar tool for scheduling and schedule management.
  • Understanding of emerging trends in software and hardware certification methodologies.
  • Certification experience with DAL A/B systems is a plus.
