Position Summary:
The Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine seeks a highly skilled and motivated faculty member at the rank of Professor to serve as a Chair of Population Health. The Chair will bring energy, passion, and a team-based, multi-disciplinary approach to advance scholarship, research, education, and community engagement in population health. We are looking for candidates who will leverage our institutional expertise in data analytics, the population of our community, and the resources of our community-based medical school to drive innovations and meaningful scholarship and research. The ideal candidate will have an established track record in bringing together the requisite knowledge from many disciplines to deliver the highest level of healthcare impact and achieving optimal outcomes through interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration. The Chair will set the standards for intellectual engagement and academic excellence, ensuring the department's success across research, education, community engagement, and clinical initiatives. We are seeking someone with visionary thinking and a passion for advancing scientific knowledge and healthcare delivery, and the transformative use of healthcare technology such as artificial intelligence in public health and clinical care.
A primary mission of the Schmidt College of Medicine as a community-based medical school is to advance the health and well-being of our community by training future generations of clinicians and scientists and translating discovery to patient-centered care. We are committed to providing educational programs, in partnership with our hospital affiliates, that enable our medical students and residents to become active, self-directed, life-long learners; produce graduates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and self-awareness required to practice effective, humanistic, patient-centered, evidence-based medicine; emphasize the centrality of collaborative relationships in the provision of the highest quality comprehensive health care; advance the science and practice of medicine including the integration of healthcare technology; and foster and value collaboration among medical specialties, and between academic medicine and community health care professionals.

Minimum Qualifications:
A doctoral degree (M.D., PhD, or equivalent) in a relevant field such as public health, medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, or health policy.
Successful administrative and leadership experience at an academic institution.
A distinguished record of scholarship, research, and leadership in an field relevant to population health.
Proven track record of securing external funding and leading impactful research programs.
Strong commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration with educators, clinicians, and faculty members.
Proven experience and success in mentoring academic faculty, early-stage investigators, and graduate students.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
The ability to effectively communicate with different members of the healthcare system as well as a variety of learners is required.

The Chair of Population Health will have the following specific responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Administration:
- Provide vision and strategic direction to enhance the departments and institution's national reputation in population health, data science, informatics, healthcare technology, and public health research.
- Foster a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment that promotes innovation, community engagement, and impactful scholarship and research.
- Lead faculty recruitment, development, mentorship, and evaluation, ensuring excellence in research, teaching, and service.
- Work closely with the College of Medicine leadership on budget planning and financial oversight.
- Drive the integration of innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, into population health initiatives.
Research & Scholarship:
- Lead and participate in high-impact research and policy development that advances interdisciplinary and holistic approaches to clinical care that addresses the needs of our community and optimizes healthcare outcomes.
- Leverage data analytics and health system partnerships to drive innovative initiatives.
- Secure external funding through grants, partnerships, and philanthropy.
- Encourage faculty collaboration with other FAU Colleges, public health agencies, community organizations, and policymakers to develop evidence-based interventions.
Artificial Intelligence & Data Science Integration:
- Lead efforts to incorporate AI, machine learning, and predictive modeling into public health research, epidemiology, and clinical decision support systems.
- Collaborate with data scientists, informaticians, and health system leaders to apply AI-driven solutions for early detection, risk stratification, and targeted interventions in diverse populations.
- Advance the department's capacity to manage and analyze large-scale population health datasets (e.g., EHR, claims, social determinants, genomics).
- Promote responsible, ethical use of AI in health equity research and care delivery.
Education & Faculty Development:
- Enhance and expand curricula related to population health, public health, and data-driven health policy.
- Support faculty in career advancement, tenure, and research productivity.
- Oversee the education, training, research, and mentorship of medical students, residents, and graduate students in public health, epidemiology, data science, biostatistics, and health policy.
- Promote interdepartmental and interdisciplinary educational collaborations within the College of Medicine and across the university.
Community & Health System Engagement:
- Develop community-based initiatives that improve population health outcomes.
- Build and sustain relationships with local, state, and national public health agencies to support research and policy development.
- Collaborate with clinical leaders to integrate population health strategies into healthcare delivery models.
- Serve as a leading advocate to address the health of the population and community served by the College and advance healthcare technology.
