GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Chemist to join our team. Candidate will will work as part of the N3B Sample and Data Management (SDM) team to support environmental sample planning, documentation, validation and data quality activities. This position is full-time and will support N3B directly in Los Alamos, NM.

Overview

  • Work as part of the N3B Sample and Data Management (SDM) team to support environmental sample planning, documentation, validation and data quality activities. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, involvement with initial project planning, environmental database maintenance, enhancement scoping, and update activities, Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD) loading, analytical chemistry data validation, and providing chemistry support to various N3B projects.
  • Contribute to reviewing, revising and drafting SDM-related policies, procedures and other documentation related to the SDM mission.
  • Assist with reviewing documents such as reports, sampling and analysis plans, procedures, standing orders, and white papers.
  • Must have the ability to train and mentor more junior team members. The ability to serve as lead to lower level positions and work under limited review of daily work.
  • Implements the Data and Sample Management Programs in accordance with program plans, procedures and regulations
  • Ensures chemical and radiochemical analytical data quality in conformance with DOE Orders and other applicable rules, regulations, and guidance
  • Interfaces with other N3B data generators to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Provides subject matter expertise for sample plan development and implementation.
  • Produces scientific white papers, business documents related to analytical laboratories and data validation processes, operating procedures, and other documents related to job responsibilities
  • Reviews data packages and performs chemical and radiochemical data validation
  • Supports the N3B environmental sampling program to ensure the necessary standards for quality
  • Supports population and management of data in site databases and ensures data accessible to the public is accurate
  • Can be viewed as an expert within a specialty closely related to chemistry and as highly competent within the environmental sciences discipline, both internally and externally.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree combined with at least 5 years' relative experience including generating and/or validating analytical chemistry data. Experience in working at or closely with commercial analytical laboratories. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
  • Extensive understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in analytical data quality laws/regulations, and sufficient practical knowledge of chemistry, radiochemistry, and environmental sciences to understand and utilize scientific data.
  • Proven ability to work with environmental information management database systems.
  • Skill and ability to perform critical strategic tasks and to interpret broad strategic requirements and develop and execute plans to satisfy them.
  • Proven ability to contribute to the organizational success and productivity.
  • Proven ability to contribute functional expertise to business proposal initiatives and communicate effectively at the highest levels.
  • Extensive experience developing and leading large-sized projects, including defining scope, objectives and methods.
  • Extensive experience with environmental information management database systems.
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.


Clearance & Citizenship Requirement

  • To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Due to the federal nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.


About the Site

N3B manages the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy Environmental Management's Los Alamos Field Office, which is responsible for cleaning up contamination that resulted from LANL operations before 1999 and packaging and shipping radioactive and hazardous waste off-site for permanent disposal (n3b-la.com).
