PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Chief Academic Officer serves as the instructional leader for the district. The incumbent provides leadership, assistance, and supervision for the efficient operation of units and elements of the organization involving curriculum and instruction. Responsible for specific instructional functions, including PreK-12 curriculum and implementation, early learning, social emotional learning (SEL), educator professional development, signature programming, CTAE, gifted and talented, ESOL, and college and career readiness. This position also provides supervision to the senior instructional leadership team, including but not limited to Elementary Education Executive Director, Director of Student Services, Executive Director of Students with Disabilities, Director of Federal Programs, Director of Student Achievement, Director of Assessment, Director of Secondary Education, Director of K12 Gifted Education, PreK Director, Director of Network Services, Director of Information Technology, and Director of Achievement Center.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Educational Level: Master's degree or higher with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, and school leadership is required; Specialist degree preferred
2. Certification/License Required: Valid Georgia Educational Leadership Certificate
3. Experience: 5 years in K-12 school programs; 3 years building or district level leadership experience; school principal experience preferred
4. Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Requires a strong instructional foundation
Ability to stay current on instructional administration techniques and programs throughout the state and nation, incorporating findings into the local organization where appropriate
Position has primary responsibility for the long-term vision, mission, and goals of the district.
Thorough knowledge of the Georgia Standards of Excellence, the Georgia Early Literacy Act(HB538), Evidence-based instruction, and knowledge of curriculum adaptation to meet the diverse needs of students(gifted, EL, and students with disabilities)
Ability to lead and support professional learning communities to foster collaborative teacher improvement.
Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and the Response to Intervention (RTI) framework.
Through knowledge of formative, summative, and diagnostic assessments which includes state mandated tests such as Georgia Milestones Assessment System.
Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting student performance data to inform instructional planning.
Familiarity with student growth models, accountability systems, and school improvement metrics
Familiarity with accreditation standards and processes as associated with Cognia, GAC, and Charter System Status.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state education laws, including: GaDOE policies, IDEA, and Title I and Title II, and other federal programs.
Understanding of instructional technology tools and their integration into teaching and learning in addition to overseeing enrollment processes and procedures.
Ability to support teachers in leveraging technology for personalized learning, student engagement, and digital literacy
Awareness of cybersecurity and privacy concerns related to student data.
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Strong ability to lead and manage teams, including principals, instructional coaches, and curriculum specialists.
2. Effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, including teachers, parents, community members, and the school board.
3. Experience in leading systemic change and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
4. Oversee and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the district wide MTSS program (academic, behavior and social emotional) to support student success and academic achievement.
5. Assists with program planning and evaluation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of instructional initiatives.
6. Promotes effective instructional practices and communication that support high levels of instruction through the use of research-based data driven best practices.
7. Prepares and maintains an annual budget for all learning programs to ensure long-term and short-term plans are aligned with district and state priorities.
8. Creates and manages the district calendar for professional learning, local and state assessments, instructional calendar days, and any school disruptions which include emergency adjustments or inclement weather days.
9. Reports District Data to GaDOE: Reporting of Student Class and Student Record, CPI, Assessment, Cross Functional Monitoring, Literacy Act, and Validates Live CCRPI Data.
10. GaDOE Accountability Contact: To include CCPRI and GA Fit manager
11. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
12. Physical Activity: While performing the duties of this job, the employer is frequently required to sit for extended periods. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
