  • Job Summary

  • The Cancer Center Chief is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial leadership of the newly established comprehensive care Steve and Nancy Fox Cancer Center. This center is a joint venture between University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC El Paso) and Texas Tech University Health Science Center El Paso (TTUSHC El Paso) and will serve as a cornerstone of cancer care in the region. Oversee the development and expansion of services at a state-of-the-art facility that includes an infusion center, medical oncology clinic, radiation therapy, clinical trials, and imaging center. Additionally, the center will develop a patient navigation program to enhance the overall patient experience.

    The Cancer Center Chief requires strong collaboration with stakeholders across UMC El Paso, TTUSH El Paso, and the broader El Paso community to solidify the center's leadership in oncology care. Works closely with the cancer center's medical leadership to ensure high-quality patient care, drive innovation, and uphold evidence-based oncology practices. Plays a pivotal role in philanthropy and fundraising efforts, ensuring the centers' financial sustainability and growth.

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    Work Experience:

    Ten years of leadership experience in oncology or hospital administration. Experience overseeing multidisciplinary cancer programs, including infusion centers, radiation therapy and imaging services.

    License/Registration/Certification:

    None

    Education and Training:

    Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field required.

    Skills:
  • Ability to oversee multidisciplinary cancer programs. Strong knowledge of oncology service lines, reimbursement models, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in fundraising, philanthropy, and managing donor relationships.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across institutions. Ability to clearly communicate the organization's vision, strategy, and goals to all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in program development, operations management and strategic planning.
  • Strong decision-making ability, especially under pressure, with the capacity to balance short-term needs with long-term strategies.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in building and leading high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, and motivating others to achieve organizational objectives.

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing and managing budgets, financial forecasting, and resource allocation. Ability to manage costs and optimize resource allocation to maximize operational efficiency.

  • Skilled in streamlining operations, improving workflows, and increasing efficiency across departments.
  • Understanding of risk assessment and the ability to develop strategies to mitigate organizational risks.
  • Ability to lead the organization through change, whether it's in response to market trends, internal transitions, or external challenges.
  • Understanding of industry regulations, compliance standards, and the legal landscape.
  • Experience working with boards of directors, ensuring effective governance and alignment with organizational goals.
