JOB SUMMARY:

The Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations across all managed skilled nursing facilities. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of clinical best practices. The CCO provides leadership to nursing and clinical staff, drives quality improvement initiatives, and collaborates with executive leadership to align clinical strategy with organizational goals. This position is key to maintaining excellence in resident care, risk management, and operational efficiency.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the leadership and direction of clinical services, and oversee the coordination, continuity, and quality of clinical care as well as the management of client services provided at each Center.


  • Evaluates effectiveness of implementation of policies and procedure for their respective Resident Care areas through routine visits to facilities, observation and discussion with facility staff.


  • Assists the facilities in assuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to resident care services.


  • Ensures education is provided to center staff on systems to ensure that reimbursement is maximized for Medicaid and Medicare.


  • Assists the Centers in assuring budgetary compliance.


  • Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia (BSN required, MSN preferred).


  • A minimum of five years of experience in a progressive leadership role in both long-term care and acute care.


  • Experience in implementation of federal and state regulations as related to long-term care and services.


  • Experience in quality improvement activities.


  • Knowledge of the MDS/Care Planning Process.


  • Oversees mock survey process in each Center and ensures Centers are "survey ready". Provides support to the Center staff before, during, and after regulatory surveys (Department of Health, JCAHO. Medicaid, etc.)


  • Assist the Centers in the development of systems to correct deficient areas noted through corporate QA's and the survey processes.


  • Developments in quality standards and tracks facility results regularly in pinpointing areas for improvement.


  • Assists Administrators in the interviewing and hiring of Directors of Nursing and other key nursing personnel.


  • Develops nursing leadership through on-going training and providing orientation to new Directors of Nursing, Assistant Directors of Nursing, Resident Care Coordinators, and any persons responsible for the MDS's Care Plans and Quality Assurance Process.


  • Assists the Centers in the assuring compliance with regulations relating to MDS and Care Plans and notifies the appropriate individuals of deficient practices.


  • Provides technical assistance to direct care staff as needed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their department.


  • Provides support and guidance to the Directors of Nursing as they face the challenges of performing their daily tasks.


  • Coordinates start-up of new facilities including establishing policies and procedures, hiring and orienting clinical staff, ordering equipment and supplies and facility set up.


  • Demonstrates excellent clinical skills and relies on nurse executive skills to establish a vision, develop resources and evaluate programs.


  • Communicates with the Administrator and appropriate department managers on the outcome of each visit.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to kneel, crawl, reach, and grasp including climbing a ladder.
  • Ability to be on call to come to center work alternative hours including nights, weekends, and overtime when needed.
  • Ability to pull, push and lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions as required, hot, wet, cold etc.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
