The Clerk's Office of the Anchorage Trial Court invites applications for a Chief Deputy Clerk 3 (range 18). This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to ensure efficient operations, compliance with policies, and effective personnel oversight.
Personnel rules will be applied to determine step placement for the successful internal candidate.
The Position
The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. Work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND two years of technical or professional legal work experience with the Alaska Court System, a law firm, or justice agency AND two years of work experience supervising clerical, technical, or professional employees.
OR
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college AND two years of work experience supervising clerical, technical, or professional employees.
NOTE: The required technical or professional legal work experience is met by service as a Court Case Manager 1, Court Case Manager 2, Court Supervisor, Clerk of Court, Chambers Judicial Assistant, or Chief Deputy Clerk with the Alaska Court System or similar legal work experience with another employer.

The Position
- Assist the Clerk of Court in managing the Anchorage Trial Court and directly supervise the Children's/Probate, Civil/Small Claims/Appeals, Customer Service, District Court Calendaring, Domestic Violence, Jury, and Records divisions. Manage division supervisors, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Maintain regular communication with division supervisors to provide guidance on procedural, managerial, and personnel matters.
- Coordinate requests for assistance between divisions and assume the responsibilities of a division supervisor as needed.
- Analyze and evaluate clerical functions and procedures, recommending new or modified processes to improve efficiency.
- Respond to inquiries or complaints from court employees, litigants, attorneys, justice system agencies, and the public.
- Contribute to policy and procedural decisions affecting the Anchorage Trial Courts and other courts in the Third Judicial District.
- Conduct complex case research and respond to inquiries regarding rules, statutes, and court policies.
