Jumoke Academy is a family-oriented and child-centered school in which every scholar is nurtured and educated, located in Hartford, CT. Founded in 1997, Jumoke Academy has become an academic powerhouse, with an enrollment of approximately 700 scholars serving Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade across 3 campuses. Our school is currently comprised of a Pre-K program (Steps to Prep Early Education Center), located in an award-winning, NAEYC accredited elementary school campus (Thelma Ellis Dickerson's Jumoke Academy), and two high-performing middle school campuses: Jumoke Academy Honors Science, Math, and Research Technology (a STEM school), and Jumoke Honors at the Hartford Conservatory (an arts integrated school).

We are looking for our next financial leader, to ensure we continue to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of our students. As a member of the district leadership team, the Chief Finance Officer administers the financial and business affairs of the district in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services with the financial resources available.

Qualifications:
  • An administrative certificate (085) as a school business administrator from the Connecticut State Department of Education, or have the qualifications to obtain the certification is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of accounting, finance or business administration or related area. Advanced training or course work in the financial/business field is highly desirable
  • At least four years of successful experience as lead financial administrator/ manager in the public, private, or corporate sector, responsible for budgeting, financial planning, staff supervision, management, policy and financial matters. Experience working with educational agencies and/or public schools is highly desirable
  • Thorough knowledge of fund accounting, budgeting, and resource management
  • Technical expertise in computer technology for use in financial management
  • Ability to prepare and implement operating plans and programs
  • Managerial skills encompassing organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication
  • Possession of human relations skills to work with all staff as a team player
  • Exemplary leadership and management skills

Supervises: Supervises non-academic staff as assigned by the CEO/Superintendent

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Assess effectiveness of financial office practices and make recommendations for greater efficiency;
  • Assess the effectiveness of financial office staff performance as directed by CEO/Superintendent;
  • Prepare financial weekly updates for Chief Executive Officer;
  • Works closely with the CAO, CEO/ Superintendent, and district leadership in the development and management of the annual operating budget.
  • Identify sources of revenue for financial operations and needs of charter school;
  • Prepare and complete all financial reports required by the local and federal government;
  • Attend regularly scheduled and special board meetings as needed;
  • Prepare, develop and lead budget review workshops for the Board of Trustees and district leadership;
  • Develop, and review budget development process with district instructional leadership;
  • Supervise and provide leadership to financial office;
  • Develops, monitors and oversees a continuous process of internal controls and auditing for expenditure review. Works closely with auditors annually to provide comprehensive support for expenditures.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to all matters related to financial aspects of Jumoke Academy School campuses;
  • Learn to utilize existing practices and electronic programs necessary to ensure smooth transition of financial leadership;
  • Manage and monitor the process to secure State and Federal funds;
  • And any other assigned duties as determined by the Chief Executive Officer.

    TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Twelve month work year. Standard administrator work schedule, including meetings as needed.
