Key Responsibilities
- Capital Strategy & Fundraising: Lead fundraising initiatives, manage investor relations, and support strategic financing efforts to fuel company growth.
- Financial Leadership: Provide strategic financial input to the executive team and Board of Directors, ensuring sound financial decision-making aligned with company goals.
- International Financial Management: Oversee global financial operations, including compliance, reporting, and tax planning for international markets (EU, LATAM, etc.).
- Scalable Financial Infrastructure: Implement and optimize financial systems, ensuring robust reporting, controls, and compliance as the company grows.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop financial models and lead budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes.
- Operational Finance: Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including financial reporting, audits, treasury, and risk management.
- Board & Investor Reporting: Present financial results and projections at quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure adherence to financial regulations, manage tax strategy, and oversee financial audits.
- Cost Control & Resource Allocation: Establish and manage cost structures, ensuring efficient use of company resources and alignment with budget goals.
- Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A): Identify and evaluate potential acquisition targets and partnership opportunities to accelerate growth.
- Financial Process Improvement: Assess and refine financial workflows, systems, and controls to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Team Leadership: Hire, train, and develop a high-performing finance team to support the company's scaling needs.
Key Competencies & Skills
- Proven track record in fundraising and investor relations in a venture-backed company.
- Experience leading the finance function in a high-growth startup, preferably in biotech, animal health, or deep-tech sectors.
- Strong international financial experience, including operations in Europe and Latin America (EU & LATAM).
- Deep understanding of financial controls, compliance, and risk management.
- Strong knowledge of capital markets, financial planning, and risk assessment.
- Experience managing audits, financial reporting, and board-level financial presentations.
- Analytical mindset with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Ability to balance short-term financial performance with long-term strategic planning.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with leadership, Board members, and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing M&A transactions and corporate development initiatives.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and entrepreneurial environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required; CFA preferred.
- 15+ years of financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a venture-backed startup or high-growth company.
- Capital Equipment Manufacturing, Animal health and/or Medical Devices experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar financial management systems.
