The Contingent is a 501(c)(3) venture non-profit that utilizes data and technology to spark and hold initiatives to empower leaders and mobilize community for the common good. Since our inception, we have centered the perspectives, skills, and needs of underrepresented community members to challenge the status quo and transform our communities. Today, we do this work across the country. We ask hard questions. We take risks. And we link arms with our neighbors, including government agencies, nonprofits, business partners, and faith communities.
The Chief Impact Officer position supports The Contingent's initiatives, which currently include Every Child and The Script, and will facilitate impact excellence in The Contingent's national expansion efforts. As context, Every Child is a national initiative focused on mobilizing community members to provide relational, tangible, and systemic support for kids and families impacted by foster care. Currently, The Contingent oversees foster family recruiting responsibilities for Oregon, Arkansas, and Tennessee, and we are innovating in the foster family licensing and retention space. The Contingent is currently in discussions with as many as 12 additional states to expand Every Child. The Contingent's other initiative, The Script, focuses programmatic work on increasing social mobility for underrepresented leaders.
The Contingent also invests in its internal Action Lab. With a focus on continuous innovation, the Action Lab uses a proven method to incubate new initiatives in the child welfare space. With current projects in the Lab in Oregon, Arkansas, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Louisiana, The Contingent will continue its work with partners to bring new ideas to life and the Chief Impact Officer will partner with the Executive Director for Products and Innovation to ensure success. Position Overview:The Contingent is looking for a Chief Impact Officer to oversee all programmatic and national expansion work across the United States, in partnership with the CEO. The Chief Impact Officer reports directly to the CEO and will work closely with other executive and senior directors of the organization to drive strategy and innovation in the child welfare space-with the goal of growing and advancing The Contingent's unique data and technology value proposition. The Chief Impact Officer will play a key leadership role in guiding The Contingent's mission and organizational success and will partner with the CEO to engage in strategic external relations work as The Contingent's geographical footprint continues to expand.
On a day-to-day basis, the Chief Impact Officer leads, manages and coordinates the work of multiple program areas and is responsible for ensuring successful cross-coordination between departments, programs and states. The Chief Impact Officer will have revenue responsibility and will also lead the National Expansion Office. The Chief Impact Officer is a strategic thinker, skilled manager, with experience and is nimble, transparent and thrives in a participatory leadership environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Chief Impact Officer's responsibilities will encompass three primary areas:
Partner with the CEO by Providing World Class Programmatic Leadership
- Optimize the CEO's time for business growth by focusing on program strength, strategy, ideation, external stakeholder priorities, and thought partnership with initiative leaders.
- Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer, Executive Project Manager in the Office of the CEO, and HQ Office Administrator to ensure alignment with the CEO's priorities and the strategic growth edges of the organization.
- Attending meetings and events with or on behalf of the CEO, sharing relevant information, and ensuring timely follow-up on all actions.
- Provide the CEO with consistent, relevant briefings.
- Anticipate needs and proactively offer solutions.
Deliver Results on Behalf of the CEO
- Translate the CEO's visions and ideas into actionable steps, gain buy-in from stakeholders, and effectively project manage them to completion.
- Manage strategic projects on behalf of the CEO, ensuring progress without requiring their direct involvement.
- Build and nurture strategic partnerships to leverage current resources, raise new funds, and demonstrate expertise in networking solutions for programmatic success.
- Coordinate with the CEO and the Executive Director of Products and Innovation on developing and seeking resources for new products, program ideas, and pilot projects, including integrating successful pilots into the program division.
- Serve as a relationship liaison with key funders, including foundations, high net worth individuals, and government agencies-in partnership with the CEO, Sr. Director of Generosity + Investment, and the executive team.
- Track performance like a hawk, research new solutions, and escalate issues or updates as needed.
- Represent The Contingent on relevant committees and task forces, as well as at speaking engagements, conference panels and networking events.
- Develop and foster productive relationships with allied organizations serving the nonprofit sector in both local jurisdictions and at the national level.
- Ability to both strategize and execute effectively.
Expand The Contingent's National Footprint While Facilitating Cross-Functional Integration
- Lead the National Expansion Office to ensure quality implementation and management of Every Child efforts across the United States.
- Cultivate relationships and establish partnerships between different program areas, encouraging knowledge sharing, resource utilization and collaborative problem solving.
- Directly supervise State Directors, and the National Expansion Office, to build team members supervisory and managerial leadership skills to engage, encourage, empower, and motivate staff in program excellence.
- Lead effort in establishing staff goals and objectives and measure results against programs impact, effectiveness, and other predetermined accountability measures.
- Foster a collaborative, close-knit program and National Expansion team aligned with organizational goals and strategic objectives.
- Implement structure, processes, and mechanisms to enhance team alignment, facilitate effective information sharing, and ensure steady progress toward objectives.
- Understand the interconnections between various initiatives and projects, discern the necessary flow of information, and ensure key individuals are included in relevant discussions. Act as a central knowledge hub, providing team members with insights to be well-prepared.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Directors, other team members, and COO to promote strong communication and bring clarity where it's needed.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure the timely and accurate completion of projects and initiatives.
- Champion alignment and accountability across the organization.
Education and Experience:
- 10-20 years of professional experience, preferably some in support of a principal in a high-growth, fast-paced environment, demonstrating a track record of success.
- While direct child welfare knowledge and experience are preferred, a genuine interest in child welfare issues and their national and state impact is essential, along with a curiosity to learn and engage
with the organization's initiatives.
- Systems thinking change management and process improvement expertise, with the judgment to implement necessary changes.
- Experience in finance is needed but does not need to be extensive; candidates should be comfortable working with math and numbers.
Key Qualifications:
- 10-20 years of professional experience, preferably some in support of a principal in a high-growth, fast-paced environment, demonstrating a track record of success.
- High emotional intelligence with exceptional interpersonal skills, adept at building strong relationships and engaging with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft communications in both personal and organizational voices.

- While direct child welfare knowledge and experience are preferred, a genuine interest in child welfare issues and their national and state impact is essential, along with a curiosity to learn and engage with the organization's initiatives.
- Exceptional project management skills, particularly in managing complex, organization-wide initiatives and effectively handling multiple priorities, action items, and follow-ups.
- Professionalism, poise, and discretion to operate effectively across a wide range of stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality.

Employment Terms, Accountability, and Compensation:
- Full Time, exempt salaried role offered at a range of $160,000-$180,000 per year, doe
