Chief Metallurgist

As our Chief Metallurgist, you will provide metallurgical supervision, oversight, and assistance in a 2600 ton per day Lead-Zinc-Silver surface mill and concentrator at a producing hard rock mining operation. You'll oversee all metallurgical aspects of milling operations: grinding, flotation, gravity, and de-watering. You will be called upon to provide guidance to the Metallurgists from an overview perspective, giving feedback to meet long term goals and operational targets.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here's what you can expect in this role:

• Training first. We provide training on not just what to do, but how to do it safely. Your first four days on-site will consist of mine safety training.
• You have a B.S. or equivalent in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, or related field. You also have experience in metallurgical supervisory role.
• You will supervise, coordinate, and develop the metallurgical staff.
• You will develop and control the metallurgical budgets and provide input to the overall mill budget. You will also develop and take responsibility for the budgets of the metallurgical lab.
• You will provide metallurgical forecasts and projected mill performance estimates using the updated models, keeping all Metallurgical Models up to date.
• You will interact with the operations group to maximize throughput and recovery in the concentrator, on projects and in day-to-day operations, incorporating input from operations and maintenance whenever possible.
• You will interact with the mine and geology staff to maximize throughput and recovery. You will also interact with the accounting/marketing group to enhance the customer base and maximize revenue from sales.
• Safety is important. You will ensure the safety of yourself and others in the workplace. You will take due care while performing your work.
