Job Description:

Clark University is seeking a dynamic Chief of Staff to support the President in executing the University's strategic initiatives and managing daily operations. The Chief of Staff will serve as a key advisor, ensuring effective organization, communication, coordination, and implementation of the President's vision and priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the President, the Chief of Staff will serve as a member of the senior leadership team as well as a liaison with other administrative leaders and staff, and will be responsible for the following:
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the President, providing strategic counsel and support on a wide range of issues.
  • Contribute to strategic institutional discussions, planning, analysis, and assessment.
  • Oversee and manage special projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the University's strategic goals.
  • Represent the President, as appropriate, in interactions with senior administrators, faculty, staff, students, members of the Board of Trustees, parents, alumni, and the public.
  • Facilitate communication between the President and various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners
  • Prepare for and facilitate key meetings, including leadership team meetings and retreats, ensuring agendas are well developed, materials are well prepared, and follow-up actions are carefully tracked.
  • Assist in the management of the President's office.
  • Anticipate issues that may impact the President's achievement of daily objectives as well as long-term strategic priorities, providing solutions and recommendations.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of initiatives and operations.
  • Serve as the President's representative as needed in meetings.
  • Assist with research and in the creation of speeches, reports, presentations, and summaries of programs and activities.


Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in higher education, preferably including a wide range of administrative responsibilities and experience as a senior administrator.
  • Demonstrated experience in a self-directed role with a high level of confidence and the ability to take initiative.

  • Exceptional judgment. Demonstrated ability to handle complicated issues with tact and diplomacy while exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to learn quickly and be flexible and comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Ability to work a demanding schedule, including evenings, weekends and frequent "on call" duty. Some travel away from campus and Massachusetts may be required.
