Job Description
The Chief People and Culture Officer (CPCO) serves on the executive leadership team and leads efforts to cultivate a workplace where every person is valued, respected, and empowered to grow.
This role is responsible for cultivating a high-trust, purpose-driven, and unified culture rooted in Christian principles and our organizational identity: Lead with Love, Serve with Purpose. The CPCO leads strategic initiatives that empower our people, foster innovation, and advance unity to ensure long-term sustainability and impact across the communities we serve. The CPCO oversees all aspects of the team member experience and helps ensure the YMCA of Greater Charlotte remains a place where people feel they belong and can thrive-spirit, mind, and body.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Four-year degree in business, with emphasis (or related experience) in Human Resource Management or Organizational Development.
Master's degree or SPHR certification required.
Minimum of fifteen years of progressive Human Resource management experience, including experience leading a team of exempt HR, benefits and payroll professionals.
Strong business acumen
Deep knowledge of Human Resource and/or development fundamentals including compliance,
development, team member relations, succession planning and compensation.
Demonstrated experience leading and developing a team, with continuous growth in knowledge
and capabilities.
Excellent process orientation and ability to provide leadership of improvement plans in the areas
of Human Resources, diversity, equity and inclusion, change management, talent acquisition and/or talent development.
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Strong skills in change management to support culture and process change.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve organizational issues.
Ability to make effective presentations on controversial or complex topics to all levels of stakeholders.
Experience working as a C-level or SVP leader, providing executive level Human Resource
and/or Organizational Development or Change Management support.
Experience with multi-location entities.All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Essential Functions
Culture & Strategic Leadership
Champion and operationalize the Y's purpose and principles across all aspects of people strategy and workplace culture.
Build a unified and collaborative culture that promotes transparency, dignity, accountability, and trust-driving employee well-being and engagement.
Partner with the CEO and senior leaders to align the people and culture strategy with the Y's Strategic Plan.Team Member Experience & Organizational Development
Lead the full talent lifecycle, including workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, succession planning, and employee retention.
Champion growth and development opportunities that prepare staff for leadership and foster long-term commitment to the mission.
Oversee organizational development strategies that support employee growth, change management, and continuous learning.
Lead initiatives that enhance employee engagement and well-being, including recognition,
and work-life balance programs.
Develop and monitor employee engagement metrics, using data to inform people strategies and improve retention.
Ensure that the YMCA is a welcoming place for all team members, volunteers, and community participants.
Human Resources Operations
Oversee HR operations, including compensation and benefits, compliance, HRIS systems, and policy development.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and YMCA standards.
Lead efforts to modernize and optimize HR systems and processes for scalability and efficiency.
Volunteer and Community Engagement
Partner with internal teams to encourage meaningful volunteer involvement and strengthen board engagement.
Support the Y's broader mission to create spaces for connection, joy, and service within and beyond the workplace.
Team Leadership
Lead and inspire a team of HR professionals and volunteers to deliver high-impact HR solutions.
Cultivate a values-based, collaborative, and high-accountability team culture.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership
